Repurposed Changing Table Potting Bench

One thing I can’t resist is a good trashure find (ya know, one man’s trash is another woman’s treasure?). City clean-up was held recently and I mentioned how I was a good girl until I saw this haul. The next day was Sunday and on the way to church I spied something else face down on the ground. I was surprised no one wanted it, but I drove on to get to church. On my way home, however, I had no problem getting out in my good clothes and shoving it in my car. Meet my new project – a repurposed changing table.

We’ve had some major setbacks in the last few weeks and I decided to take it out on this piece today. Let me show you how I turned it into an updated dresser. PLUS, I have an awesome giveaway for you!

You might be wondering what’s wrong, well we’ve found a pest in the wood we are using for our kitchen countertops. No big deal, just treat and move on, but that set us back 3 weeks finding the source, the solution, and waiting on it to arrive. Then our vehicle had issues and when they were supposed to be fixed the dude who repaired it caused more damage. We even had Read more

Buffet Makeover ~ A Night & Day Difference

Earlier this week in my upholstered footstool post, I told you I would show you the after of a vintage buffet I was doing some custom work on. It seems once my own sideboard(or you can call it a buffet) was refinished, it caused quite a stir. As soon as my own buffet sold from my shop, I have had the blessing of receiving several requests for custom work, and thought it would be fun to share it with you today.

At first glance, you may think to yourself, “There’s nothing wrong with this buffet.” But, upon closer observation, if you look at the top you’ll see something.

Being that I don’t know the full story, my best guess is that someone tried to refinish the top, but quit. I mean, there’s no topcoat and the wood was dry. Not to mention look at those awful stain strokes. {{gasp}}.

My client was after a piece to help her family celebrate the holidays, and also an accent piece to match their dinette set which was cherry wood mixed with black paint. Naturally she wanted something to compliment her decor and  match her current furniture. Sounds good to me! Read more

Coffee Table Makeover with French Country Style

Do you ever feel like that no matter how hard you try, your good intentions never seem to work out? Here’s my story (and I’m sticking to it): my kids need clothes, right? So, I like to hit garage sales to save money, but it somehow never turns out that way. Why is it they have to stick other things in garage sales that would distract you from intended mission? tsk. Seriously. I was only going to look for clothes and then this coffee table just had to be there.

Do you know that feeling of complete relaxation…that point that you just don’t want to move or else it will go away? That my friends is how I feel about sinking into my latest treat-to-self family. ahem. Last week I showed you how I’ve been updating our patio decor. This week, take a look at the new beauty that has arrived to my outdoor decor. You don’t know backyard bliss until you have rested in a tufted hammock. Yes, not just any old hammock…a tufted hammock – a veritable mattress on ropes!. I must be dreaming…swoon.

You see, our other hammock was feasted upon by mice in our shed. It wouldn’t hold a the weight of  a flea. It had been my oldest daughter’s gift and I felt so bad. My kids loved on this thing like none other and it added such fun to our backyard. I decided to surprise them. tee hee hee.

In my opinion, our home doesn’t just exist within four walls, but rather also includes the environment we create around the outside of our home. Today, I want to show you how to easily add to our outdoor decor to make an inviting space with a bit of effort. Since our Themed Furniture Makeover day for this month is all about OUTDOOR, I thought that this sweet little table would be the perfect fit. You’ll get to see what my furniture friends have created for you soon.

I’ve mentioned before that whenever we receive a piece of furniture for free, I pass it along to one of my kids. They each take turns and can’t wait to see what arrives next. My youngest son, Mr. O., was the recipient of this plant stand-type table from my mother.

It had seen better days and would fall apart if you picked it up wrong, but it had some potential. See the rust? I love me some rust.

Time for Mr. O to take the lead and get this project started.

This isn’t his first furniture makeover, as he did a clock face table before from a table he found in the trash. That’s what I call trashure.

I only had to guide him here and there with using my drill and bits.

We cut new slats from some scrap wood out of my stash using my table saw and miter saw. Once done it was only a matter of assembly and finish work.

He did a dry fit to make sure all was good and sanded smooth with my orbital sander.

We decided to go darker on the color of the wood and used my favorite stain that we’ve also used in several other projects. It’s called Early American by RustOleum. By the way, he had a ventilator on, but I forgot to take a picture of him staining, so we staged this one for a quick fix and forgot the mask. oop!

For a French twist, we added this DecoArt Cafe Paris stencil on top.

To seal it all up, we sprayed with this polyurethane for protection.

Now, doesn’t it look perfect beside our newest addition? Adding little things like this to your outdoor decor doesn’t have to break the bank.

After all the hard work, I needed to take a break. aaahhh… I’m telling you this tufted hammock found at DFOHome is bliss on earth. We were so happy with our outdoor curtains on our patio makeover, that I knew that would have just the thing I was looking for since they have oodles of styles and choices.

All of my 6 kids vie for hammock time (even though it easily holds two), but the one who deserved it most today was Mr. O. He worked hard and deserves a break.
