DIY Quilt Rack from Repurposed Parts

Do you ever get inspiration from junk? I mean, like it just kinda begs to be made into something and the vision is real the minute you see it. JC, my husband, does not. Bless his heart…hahaha… He tries, but is one that needs some direction to see things in a different light. That is what I’m here for, right?! Take this set of bed posts and misfit table legs. Do you see anything there? Let me show you how I turn it into a DIY quilt rack.

First, here’s some background on these pieces. The set of spindle legs came from one of the greatest hauls I ever had. I mention it back in this post from 2014 where I scored Read more

Mid Century Modern Furniture Color Fun

Last week, I showed you this Mid Century Modern chest of drawers I found on Craigslist. It just needed a little TLC and a pop of color to bring it up-to-date.

Much better, right? The makeover stays true to the era while adding a bit of fun.

I also mentioned that it wasn’t until after we got the chest home that I saw the owner had just listed the matching credenza. Umm…duh. (sorry. I hate when my kids use that word, but this situation perfectly fits it)Why he didn’t tell us he would be selling it too, I’ll never know, but we went back on the road again to pick up this classic Mid Century Bassett piece.

This top was the worst part…damage where the mirror had sat, chemical stains that I hoped could be hidden, and oodles of dents and dings. Someone had even made screw holes in the top ends! Read more

Dresser Updated to Prairie Charm with Milk Paint

We’ve been crazy busy around here working on finishing up our patio makeover, complete with pergola, but I found some time to give this Craigslist find dresser a sweet makeover.

What do you think of the…well…ummm…ORANGE. It’s sort of a pumpkin color, so it suits the season, but just a tad too much for such a sweet piece. Mind you, it would look great if set up in a room to suit it, but I see it needing some prairie charm.

What inspired me to work on this dresser was having the chance for the first time EVER to use milk paint (gasp). Yes, I have never had my brush in milk paint and I was so eager to have a go at it. Read more

Mid Century Modern to Modern Day

It’s been crazy around here lately, with our boys’ bedroom being redone and I’ve been blessed to have a couple of custom orders to work on. So in total, I’ve done about 7 large pieces of furniture in less than 2 weeks. whew! I’m tuckered, but am happy that I am able.

One of the custom items we are selling regularly now in my shop, is our farmhouse style storage trunk. (aka Pottery Barn Knock-Off) We actually just received another order and are working on it this week. God is good.

The other custom order came about when a mom was looking to purchase this chest of drawers for her daughter. You can read all about that fun makeover here.

She had another daughter that needed some furniture, but had a completely different taste, more along the lines of Mid Century Modern. Talk about night and day, eh?

So off I went to shop and because things were so crazy busy, I really said a silent prayer that I would find something local so that I didn’t have to search too much. I went to thrift store 5 minutes from my house and here is what I saw…

Antique Stereo Turned Sewing Cabinet

The jury is in…the Themed Furniture Makeover Day has become one of my favorite days of the month. Can you blame me? What better than to get down and dirty with furniture AND do it alongside these fantastic ladies who have the same passion. It’s WIN-WIN!  Today it’s all about being “Distressed” – the furniture that is.

About a year and a half ago, I was driving home down our street and noticed what appeared to be a teeny tiny garage sale on the corner.  It basically was a few pieces of furniture and, of course, that caught my eye.  With kids in tow, I pulled over and got out to take a quick peek.

As it turns out, a young man had recently purchase the house and was decluttering some gorgeous antiques. My eyes first went to this ragged looking sideboard. Price tag: $15

Oodles of damage, door beaten in and missing all sorts of stuff, but in otherwise structurally good standing. Cha-Ching!

It wasn’t until a couple of months ago I was able to give it its rightful makeover. Using my Modern Masters English Brown Metallic Paint and a whole lot of TLC it was given new life. Much better, right?

At second glance I saw this sweet little forlorn stereo cabinet resting on those sweet spindle legs. Price tag: $5
