Welcome Home Summer Tour with Balsam Hill

It’s almost officially summer and I’m ready to kick off the season in style with a fantastic group of ladies (a total of 24 blogs!) in the week-long Welcome Home Summer Tour with Balsam Hill. Wahoo!

You may be saying to yourself, “Balsam Hill? I thought they were all about Christmas trees?” Though their primary focus is the Christmas season, Balsam Hill also has plenty of goodies for you to choose from for all seasons.

If you missed my sneak-peak video last week, I mentioned that my home is where I want my family to feel welcome, and is inviting toย anyone who comes to my door. While I normally have planters full of herbs and such, this year, I wanted to create an environment that would last all year long.

Can you see me peeking at you? ๐Ÿ™‚

Who doesn’t love a little curb appeal, or a little dressing up, right? If you’re like me, I think a front door says so much about what lies beyond. So, with the help of Balsam Hill, I was able to take our somewhat boring entry and help create a welcoming atmosphere. Check out my new duds…

I picked out two of these slate urns. The ornate design and low profile are what caught my eye because our front door entry doesn’t have a whole lot of room to play with. Though these are typically meant for an artificial Christmas tree, I knew these would suit me well because my space doesn’t get very much rain and it would be easy for me to step out and water when needed.

With some potting soil and a few plants, I’m ready to set up.

Lovely with the miniature pine, and can be lit during the holidays too.

My next choice was a gorgeousย Balsam Hill Outdoor Led Boxwood Wreath – 22”. The best aspect about this wreathย is that it works for all seasons, just like I’d planned. I can add decorations to it to suit the seasons, and can even be welcoming at night. Perfect!

It’s so lush and aren’t those leaves, sweet? Theyย look like tiny hearts.

Welcome Home Summer Tour with Balsam Hill - It's more than just Christmas trees! by Prodigal Pieces www.prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpiecesย I added a jute upholstery webbing hanger with some hot glue, and it is hung on my door with an upside down Command hook on the back of theย door.

After that, I added a simple cotton twill bow, and a bit ofย rustic, handmade goodness using my transfer method.

Balsam Hill Nothing says “Welcome” more than a weathered piece of pallet. Can I get an amen?

Another icing-on-the-cake feature for me is we finally got all our window flower boxes done that we started last summer. {sigh of relief} We had to replace both front windows and got all the boxes on the rest of the house, but winter beat us to the front. Now I can say it’s ALL DONE. (I’ll be sharing the house reveal soon!)

Ready to see it all together?

Now I truly feel I can say my house says, “Welcome Home” in more ways than one.

If feels good when things work out together, doesn’t it?

Your urns really dress up your entry area and the plants that you used should last until fall. That boxwood wreath is so realistic looking. The way you decorated it for summer is perfect. Your entry is now very welcoming.

So happy to hear it, Paula. ๐Ÿ™‚ I lean towards simplistic and I am so glad my door is welcoming and not overwhelming. Now to build a porch to go with it!

  • Dagmar from Balsam Hill

Larissa, you have such a wonderful handle on proportion. Such an effective use of the wreath and urns. I love your idea of being able to use this set up for the duration of the year through Christmas. It will not take too much to switch to Fall and on to Christmas, and you might even be able to add some Red, White and Blue for the Fourth celebration! Nice job!

    June 4, 2015 at 9:29 pm Reply
    • Larissa

Absolutely, Dagmar! I already have 4th of July plans and my kids can’t wait to put tiny lights on the trees at Christmas. So happy to have worked with your company. ๐Ÿ™‚

Superb blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Appreciate it!|

Hello! Thank you for your compliments. ๐Ÿ™‚ I started out on Blogger and switched to self-hosted WP. If I had the funds initially and knew better, I would have just started out on WP because of my business intentions. However, I would totally make use of Blogger again if I was just into blogging for blogging. My friend, Kim at http://www.kimsixfix.com has all sorts of tips on how to earn an income on Blogger. Check it out and tell her I sent you! ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish you the best.
