Antique Dressing Table Turned Desk

Oh, what sweet bliss it is to walk into a thrift store not knowing what you’ll find, and walk out with a piece of history at your side. My kids and I went to get some play clothes and I walked out with more than I came for. BIG SURPRISE, right? What you see below is a giddy me perched on top of an antique dressing table about to become a desk.

Who would leave this behind with price tag of $10 and also had a 35% off coupon burning a hole in their pocket? Not ME! tee hee! Read more

Ikat Mid Century Modern Dresser

My heart and eye are always drawn to the cast-offs. I think I even do the same people. I was always befriending the kids in school that no one wanted to play with. Yes, I was made fun of and assumptions were made, but I didn’t care. That’s how I felt about this worn out Mid Century Modern dresser I found online. It needs some attention, but that’s easy-peasy. Check out how I’m going to turn this into an Ikat Mid Century Modern dresser. Let’s have some fun! (new video tutorial!)

Vintage Mid Century Harmony House Dresser Before Makeover

What’s Ikat you say? Ikat is a fabric made from an Indonesian decorative technique where the threads are tie-dyed before weaving. Some say ee-kat, while others say eye-kat. I go with the Read more

Farmhouse Kitchen Canisters DIY Style

There’s no doubt that we all have those projects that go sour and we’d rather not mention. Am I right? Ya know, the “just-donate-it-to-the-thrift-store-while-in-super-sleuth-mode” kinda project. I will be the first to confess I’ve given away projects I would have rather thrown in a lake. So, for some reason I felt bad for this set found at the thrift store.  Hang with me as I turn them into a fun set of farmhouse kitchen canisters. yahoo!

Nightstand Makeover ~ From Dated to Elegant

Do you ever have one of those moments when you’re either at a garage sale or thrift store and something stops you and makes you say, “Ooooohhh…”? I love when that happens. Vintage Nightstand Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

I’m calling this a nightstand, but really it is also an end table or side table or pretty much anywhere-you-want-to-put-it table. My oldest daughter, Miss C, was looking for a project since her and her siblings join me in my adventures. You can see her Read more

As this past year flashes by and we are already a few days into 2016, I wanted to take a minute to look at my year in review and share my Top 10 Makeovers of 2015. Fun, right? Top 10 Makeovers of 2015 | Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com

Crazy as this sounds, my #1 top viewed post of 2015 was not a makeover, but a tip. Yep, a last-minute, grab-my-camera, and why-not-share-my-quirky-habit type of post. My “Natural Ant Control with Grits” post blew up and was by far number one. I guess I’m not the only one with the pesky little critters each spring.

Stop the Ants! Natural Ant Control Using GRITS | Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpieces

A bit of controversy arose about my post and several naysayers appeared, but I tell ya, it works. Whether it kills them or just feeds them so they don’t come in…I don’t care. I like ants, just not in my home, right?

The #2 post was none other than Read more

2nd Year Blogiversary & Desk GIVEAWAY!

Wahoo!! I’ve made to my 2nd year blogiversary and I want to thank YOU readers for all your love and support.  Without you I wouldn’t be here! Just wait until you see the gift I have for you!

Let me take a minute to reflect on my beginnings. It all began on Mother’s Day two years ago when I signed up for my blog, though didn’t actually start posting anything until the early part of the following June. I took most of May to learn, set things up, and create graphics. I was bleary eyed from all the code, but having a blast learning. As of last May I was new to being a mom of 6, had to run in high gear because I had medical bills to pay from being in the NICU with our babe, so off I went like a mad-woman painting and selling furniture in my shop. There were times we needed the money the next day and I was scrambling around trying to figure out how we were going to make the payment, and my latest piece would be listed and sell within a half hour. BAM! God is so good. He knew what we needed and when. Like when I finished this feed sack chair. It sold lightning fast and was a hit on the internet. Living Vintage Behind the Blogger Series with Prodigal Pieces I like to highlight some of my favorite pieces over the last year. One was an antique table makeover with my favorite color: Aqua An Antique Side Table Get an Aqua Makeover - My FAVORITE! by Prodigal Pieces www.prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpieces Read more
