Farmhouse Benches with Grain Sack Stripe

When I head to the thrift store and see country blue and geese with hearts, I instantly have a flashback to 1980’s. My mom definitely added that kind of style to her decor at one point. It’s cute, but totally not my style. My last thrifting visit produced this haul and looked like someone cleaned house. For the next few projects I’m going to be transitioning these pieces into a farmhouse state. Today is all about those country blue benches becoming farmhouse benches.

Vintage Dresser Features Industrial Vibe

Earlier this week I showed you how I took miniature curbside picket fence and turned it into garden decor. In that post, I showed you this vintage dresser I had picked up on Craigslist. To say it’s dated would be an understatement, right?

Made of mixed woods with a veneer-type top and sides, and also has oak drawer fronts and face. This is certainly a solid piece, BUT… it has the look of “update me please!!”

If you follow me on social media, you would have seen that a few months back my older kids had been working on their own furniture projects and my youngest boy was aching to find a project of his own. His Grandpa had brought over a couple of wooden shelves for him and his older sister to work on, but his broke.

He was so bummed and kept asking me when we could find him something to work on. Then it happened…we were headed in for the evening and he ran up to me excitedly proclaiming that a lady a couple of houses down had just thrown away a chair, or something like it, and it could be his. You can imagine he peaked my interest, so I told him we would check first thing in the morning since it was dark outside.

Do you think he slept in. No siree. He was out of bed lickety-split and we headed down to take a look. I must tell you that he has his mother’s genes. Look at this little gem he found. (notice the angelic light shining! I did not add it – btw.)

Whether BIG or small, all you do to show  love to someone else really matters. Countless times I’ve been the recipient of someone else making time for me. It doesn’t go unnoticed and I yearn to pay it forward and go as BIG as I can. Daring to be different and showing love pays back tenfold. I’m sharing from the heart today of God’s grace in recent days.

My project was sort of a no-brainer. The other day, my son and I went to pick up a desk for him to work on, which just happened to be two houses down. (how weird is that?) While there and talking to the awesome lady who was selling the desk, she offered me this handmade trunk.

After receiving this handmade trunk for free, all it needed was some hardware and industrial touches to give it some kick by Prodigal Pieces www.prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpieces

It’s a handmade storage trunk that she said was in her house when she bought it. It was missing the hardware and she gave it a white coat of paint. And if you know me, I don’t pass up FREE very often. tsk. Read more
