Footstool Upholstery ~ It really is that easy

One of the questions I often get asked is, “Is upholstery really that hard?” Truth is that no, it isn’t when you have the right tools, lots of practice, and plenty of patience. It’s the kinda thing you can figure out the basic jist of it by diving in. To give you a glimpse of how easy it really can be, I’m taking a pair of thrifted footstools and showing you how to dive into footstool upholstery.

Thrifted Footstools Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

Do you see why they need a little…ahem…help? The footstool on the right is a handmade cover that isn’t bad, but just needed some oomph. The footstool on the left was kinda dingy and also could use a lift. That one on the left is the one Read more

Repurposed Cabinet Door Crate

Do you do a spring cleaning each year? For me, it seems like each month is spring with my family of 8 because I’m forever purging and cleaning. ha! Not complaining, just the truth. If I’m cleaning I know I have loved ones around me. Take for instance my workshop, full of goodies ready to become something new. These doors came off of a buffet that my son completed HERE (you seriously have to see it!). We promised to show you this repurposed cabinet door project. Oh, and we have a WINNER for the Zibra prize package!

Cupboard Doors Before Repurposing | Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

Because these doors had cracks where the hinges were, they became unusable as they were originally intended. However, are they trash? NO WAY. Trashure I say! I recently gave my own kitchen cupboard doors new life by turning them into Read more

Updated Dresser with Pulls, Paint, & Stain

Do you find stress relief in work? I’m one of those the will clean my house lickety-split when I am one hot mama. hahaha… That’s kinda how I feel about furniture and my creative projects too. There are times when I am downright frazzled and wore to the bone, then when I go get creative my woes are gone. I talk to God during that time and it feels so good. We’ve had some major setbacks in the last few weeks and I decided to take it out on this piece today. Let me show you how I turned it into an updated dresser. PLUS, I have an awesome giveaway for you!

You might be wondering what’s wrong, well we’ve found a pest in the wood we are using for our kitchen countertops. No big deal, just treat and move on, but that set us back 3 weeks finding the source, the solution, and waiting on it to arrive. Then our vehicle had issues and when they were supposed to be fixed the dude who repaired it caused more damage. We even had Read more

Kitchen Island Cart from Repurposed Materials

Do you ever feel the need to just purge and start fresh? That’s my life story. hahaha… I seem to be ever battling the need to destash my stash. People mean well when they give me stuff and I usually have a soft heart and take it. Then what…I store it forever and work like a mule trying to stay afloat. I’m not complaining, but have decided that this entire month is dedicated to tackling my workshop. No more furniture coming in (unless custom requested), no more anything until it is done. First up, I’m taking these louver doors and turning them into a repurposed kitchen island cart. Woot!

Notice the loot surrounding them. See what I mean? An awesome local friend gave these to me along with a chest of drawers (see the makeover HERE) and a dresser (thank you, Becky!). I have a thing for shutters and knew I could find some use for them. But…it’s already been over a year and they need Read more

Girl’s Bedroom Set Refreshed with Paint, Paper & Pulls

It’s always good to know when to pick your battles, right? For instance, I know that when I am on Craigslist I will find projects, and when I find projects, I will not be able to resist them. Then, that leads to overload in my workshop and me asking myself, “What did you do?!?” Solution: STAY OFF CRAIGSLIST. There. I said it. To validate my logic, let me show you what happens when I take a peek at Craigslist. See this? That is the result of looking for 5 minutes. Yup. Now, stay with me here as Mr. I and I will show you how it became a girl’s bedroom set.

Vintage Buffet from Trash to Trashure

Do you ever feel like quitting? I know I’m not alone when I say there are times I just want to grab a ticket and hop on a plane with my family and go hide out for a few months. Can I get an amen? I have reached that point a few times over the last few months, understandably so with all that we have going on. When a friend pointed out a vintage buffet to me for FREE, I hesitated. Can you see why?

In the future, I will show you the true before as a few years ago I did three coats of paint and stain-blocking primer to this room, tore down a drop ceiling, and made my pallet shutters and barnwood & bedskirt valance. (both have tutorials) I even got the entertainment center for free from a guy who was originally going to charge me $100, but told us we could have it if we would take his projection TV’s. Deal! Serious praise is that most everything in this room was received for Read more

We adopted Teddy when he was 1 ½ years old, since the previous owner had an illness that meant she could no longer care for him as needed. He as been such a loyal, lovable dog. He resides with us 24/7 and is our alarm-barking nut at 9 years of age. Teddy already has a cozy den that he sneaks into where he sleeps, but he is getting older. I wanted to create a snuggly pet bed where he can be with us all the time.
