Side Table Upcycled into Decor

Are you ready for some Trash to Treasure fun?!? It’s the second Tuesday of the month and that means I’m joining up with four other fantastic bloggers to present to you brand new inspiration. You’ll see their projects in a bit. But, for now, take a look at what is up for grabs out of my stash. It’s missing a lamp, still in decent shape, but kinda ugly. haha. I say it’s time for this upcycled side table adventure to begin. Are you ready?

Side Table Before Makeover | prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpieces

You may be wondering how I happen to have this funky table in my possession. Well, as I’ve mentioned before, it’s wonderful when friends see things and think of you or that you would be able to do something with it. Mandy, my equally thrifting friend, offers this to me. I only take it on because it’s so…umm…quirky. I never understood this design because the magazine rack below is bowed which means when you put a magazine in it, it’s basically going to ruin your periodical. A straight edge would be soooo much better.

TAKE ‘ER DOWN

First order of business, I disassemble this table to see what the pieces might say to me. It’s much like this heart cut-out furniture I made into many pieces HERE.

At first look, I decide to turn the top into something separate from the base. Then, I clean it up and grab some gray milk paint to apply two coats letting cure in between.

Meanwhile, I head out to my workshop and take the side table base apart. It literally fell to pieces when I got the last screw out. haha!

After looking at the parts, I decide to have some fun with this. yeehaw!! I trace the side panel onto the other side and cut it to match with my jigsaw.

After that, I use my miter saw to cut the side pieces and the base in half. Don’t you just love tools?!? Remember…my motto…#toolsoverjewels.

Before you call me crazy, I have a plan to take those two halves of the side table upcycled into two wall pockets. First, I reassemble the two halves, then I just happen to find two scrap boards I can mount the rack to. However, before I can put my vision together, I want to dress them up with paint too since I’ve cut them and they need to gel with my design.

Next, while those are curing as well, I head back to my table top to add some art using tape and a stencil.

UPCYCLED & FUN

From one side table upcycled into two different projects. Yippee!! First, here’s the table top as a serving tray complete with grain sack stencil.

However, it’s also good while not in use as a tray to hang it on the wall as decor.

Next in line is that weird rack I decided to remake into wooden wall pockets. Here they are ready to be filled with whatever suits your heart’s desires.

I chose to fill with food goods, but they works for towels/washcloths, yarn, and even still magazines. What would you fill them with?

It kinda was a puzzle at first, but it clicked when I saw the pieces separately. Thanks, Denise!

woot, woot! Thank you so much for the much-needed smile, Nancy. 😀

Is it weird to see a fat surf board or a boogie board in the first piece?? That’s the summer vibe I get- and then outta nowhere Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello pop into my head.. ?????‍♀️??‍♂️??
Anywhooo…..…I really like the produce holders. Very fun and creative as usual!! Have a totally awesome-radical, gnarly day!!

    • Larissa says

Not at all! haha! I actually debated on that, but wanted to make it gel with the pockets. Thanks so much, Niki!

    • Larissa says

Well, you sure know how to make a gal feel good, Sue. Thank you so much for the kind words.

  6. Naomi S Shelton says

Well, I didn’t have a clue that you would disassemble that table! I also couldn’t imagine what you would do with it to update it as it was. So it was like reading a mystery and waiting ’til the end to see what happens. Anyway, I think your idea was inspired and the end result amazing! I think I like those little wall shelves are my favorite part of what you did. Great remake, Larissa!

    • Larissa says

tee hee! I’m so glad you enjoy my work and can’t thank you enough for the smile. Thank you, Naomi!
