It’s been a couple of months that I’ve been able to do a Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION project for you. But… I’m baaaack! The last Tuesday of every month, I take an unwanted or thrifted item and give new purpose by refashioning it. You can see all my previous posts by clicking on the highlighted text in the first sentence. On today’s chopping block, I have this thrifted skirt I have never worn. You see, when I spy linen, I snatch it up. I found I have THREE long linen skirts in my closet, and I am not quite as fond of the button-up kind. It’s time for a refashioned linen tank top for moi.
This one is also a blench of linen and cotton (55/45%) while my others are 100% linen. It looks good, but I don’t reach for it. Plus, on the other hand, I always like a comfy top.
CHOPPING TIME
First, I was originally wanting to create a short set out of linen but decided on just a top for the moment. Initially, I drafted a version I want to create with a square neckline and a gathered tie with basic shorts.
In my planning, I chose to do a simpler project so I could make use of the button plackets. So instead, I begin by drafting my own patterns on old desktop calendar paper. While it’s kinda hard to see, I have my front panel and my front smock/bib as well. I’m always making my own patterns as I want it to fit ME. You can use clothes you currently own as a template to make this simple.
Next, I continue by cutting the waistband off and remove the darts at the back (over the buttocks).
Then, I place my patterns and cut out the fabric pieces. While I won’t say this is the most fun part, it is, however, wonderful to see my vision coming to life.
Of course, after that, I just need to assemble. Primarily, I’m only using my sewing machine this time as my serger needs some TLC.
Of course, knowing this will be for me is the best part. tee hee.
REFASHIONED STYLIN’
Won’t you join me for the reveal of this refashioned linen tank top? I’m smitten with it and can say it’s as fun as my bedsheet jumper, curtain cargo pants, linen jacket, and my tablecloth hat.
Not only is it comfortable, but cute! It suits my favorite earthtone colors. and goes with much in my wardrobe. And then there’s the party in the back.
Likewise, it’s not perfect and that’s perfectly fine with me as neither am I. However, I also got it done in an afternoon from start to finish.
At the same time, I’ve been absolutely loving my Juuri sandals this summer. After selling some personal items to treat myself to a birthday gift, I got myself and my daughter, Miss E, a pair with various laces. Aren’t they so cute?! You can read about my barefoot journey HERE.
Are you feeling inspired? Maybe you can take a crack and creating your own refashioned tank top or whatever floats your boat. My “skirt turned shirt” will have much more use than hanging in my closet.

Larissa!! You look the best I’ve ever seen you!! The top is cute, but you look as if a huge weight has been lifted. Your inner glow is shining through and you are exuding a peace I’ve never seen before. It makes me so happy to see you looking so comfortable in your own skin!! 🥰😍🥰

Thank you for the sweet words and making me smile. I’m literally carrying a huge load on my shoulders so it must not be showing. But… I do know I’m headed in the right direction after 47 years of mess.

Cute, cute, cute. I really like this top and the mustard shorts and blue Juuri sandals make it a perfect Larissa outfit! I agree that you have a glow about you in these pics. Your hairs natural wave gives you a youthful/playful appearance.
I think the style or cut of the tank top makes it perfect. My bilateral mastectomy with out reconstructive surgery makes it hard to find tops that work with my body so I’m usually a t-shirt girl but if I find something like this I would buy it and most likely wear a duster or cardigan over it.

aww… thank you! I am feeling good in many ways and hoping to keep on in that process. My goodness you’ve had a rough road as well and am glad you’re here. I have always found box-store clothes lacking and enjoy making my own to fit my own shape. I miss the good ol’ days.

Makes me want to grab an old flowery shirt and turn it in a similar tank top, thanks for the inspiration, Larissa !

You’re so sweet, Tracy. But, you’re right! I used to model for a time. 😉 Thank you for the smile.
