Lately, I’ve been trying to get a few projects done for our own home that I’ve had on my brain. Sometimes it seems like my head is going to explode and it feels good to work on something and be able to mark it off my list. For some reason, I’ve always admired the whimsy of bathroom directional sign. You know, a sort of vintage here-you-go sign. Check out my repurposed direction…hee hee.
Well, I’ve been making a point to work through my stash bit by bit and get creative. Here is what I pulled out as possible repurposed direction sign candidates.
What you see is a wood turning, a small single tree (for a goat?), a rusty old coping saw, and a leftover piece of my treadle sewing machine table. In addition, I also decided to use my rusty saw and sewing machine part (that funky piece of wood).
THE BEFORE
Incidentally, the sewing machine I’m talking about was this rustified beauty.
See that board up under the bottom on the right? That’s where my project piece came from. In case you’re wondering, here’s the after of that totally rustic piece…
Likewise, you can read all about the makeover in this post.
Okay, so I have an old tool and a piece of wood. In my mind, I wanted them connected together and pointing to our bathroom with vintage typography. In case you didn’t know, I have a thing for typography. Yes, I am still giddy over the chest I just refinished with a hand painted design for my shop. woot! (You can read about the project HERE).
DIY TIME
When I need a graphic, one of the first places I head is to Karen at The Graphics Fairy. She has oodles of FREE images for you for any type of project you are working on. That is where I found the finger I was looking for. (yes, a finger).
First, I use her graphic with some text and made a sign in Photoshop. Next, I used my transfer method, I put it on that piece of wood.
Finally, once the image was on the wood I get to have my fun-time of hand painting. It’s sort of like therapy for me.
Next, I attached the two pieces together and hung it on my wall outside our newly remodeled bathroom. If you haven’t seen our bathroom makeover yet, it’s a must read.
Not only is my sign fun and funky, but it also obviously gets the point across. hee hee.
Now to make use of my other bits and pieces reclaimed “junk” and turned them into repurposed beauties.
SHARE
Additionally, pin and share my repurposed direction sign. Inspire others!
Up next for Trash to Treasure Tuesday I will be taking this free handmade trunk and give it a makeover. Hmmm…what will it become? See the after HERE.

I have a directional sign IN my bathroom. Not what you were intending but it says ” I aim to keep this bathroom clean. Your aim will help.” I like your sign. It is very nice to look at.

You have an extraordinary talent for creating art pieces out of items most people would throw out. The sign is really cool.

Thank you, Debra! I have a hard time not seeing potential and it’s hard to let go. It’s all good in the end, right? 😉

Love this! I am all for repurposing even the most useless appearing things, but I must admit I looked at your first picture and saw no potential whatsoever in those items – great job. We did a little of that here a while back in our Emergency Media Stand project https://ginakeesling.wordpress.com/2015/10/31/rob-and-the-emergency-media-stand/

I made a Powder Room Sign last year, but I’m liking yours much better Larissa!
