Waste not, want not, is a wise adage that many have lived by for generations. I tend to fall into that camp as our planet is filled with enough goods considered rubbish filling our earth. It’s wasteful and a shame that more don’t make effort to be creative. Not only is creating a therapy, but also serves as a way of doing your part. In my last post, you saw what I did with the ceiling fan blades I found sitting on top of my neighbor’s trash. Today, I’m creating with upcycled ceiling fan blade hardware.
What do you see when you first look at the hardware? I’ve seen them used as curtain tie-backs and debated on that. However, I have a different vision. Call me crazy, but I see whale tales. Yup. What’s a gal to do with hardware that looks like a whale’s tail?
LET’S CREATE
First, I need to dig into my wood stash. Look at this oak beauty already done up with chippy paint. eep! This, too, is from a neighbor’s trash.
In my mind I’m pairing the two to make a bonafide beachy coat rack. Sound good? In order to do that, I first need to clean up the hardware. I lightly sand the white paint finish to make it have a little “tooth” for new paint.
After that, I soak them in a cleaning solution and let them dry. Then, I use a soft blue chalk spray paint to give them a fresh new look.
Meanwhile, I set about to create a graphic using my transfer tutorial, then begin to fill it in.
BEACH ANYONE?
Okay, so I worked on this while out in my workshop in 24° and I’m so over freezing this winter/spring. Therefore, a hot, sandy beach house may or may not be on my brain. Ever listen to “Polka in Paradise”? That’s my ringtone…just sayin’.
I do love Ohio, but by March my feet miss the sunshine. And, because of that I went with a coastal farmhouse style with my upcycled ceiling fan hardware project. Isn’t it fun? I think we all can use a bit of √ unwind √ relax √ enjoy. And, how about this handsome guy?
