DIY Insulated Picnic Basket with Napkins

In life there are things that we can find ourselves drawn to and we have no idea why. haha. Am I right? Well, in this case I think I know why and I know how it started. Let me begin by showing you how I’m going to turn this thrifted goodie into a DIY insulated picnic basket. {{ooh…aaah…ooooo}}

Farmhouse Butter Churn Makeover

You might wonder what goes through my head while I’m perusing the thrift store. Well, you might think of Dory from Finding Nemo, but actually, I’m pretty picky. Let’s take a look at this vintage farmhouse butter churn that followed me home. tsk.

Well, apparently I am ever so drawn to butter churns. I already have two so what would one more hurt, right? Just roll with it, K? In my defense, one of my butter churns is a family heirloom.

However, the other one isn’t an heirloom per say, but a thrifted find paired with a walking stick.

DIY Rustic Carrots from Upcycled Furniture Legs

Spring is just around the corner and I am so excited to see the signs of life in my garden beds. I know some of you already have full blooming, or are even headed into winter on the other side of the world. However, here in Ohio, we are just starting to see buds and smiling cold-weather blooms, like crocus pop out. Today, I’m going to take this misfit bunch of furniture legs and turn then into some spring-like DIY rustic carrots. (giveaway alert!)

There’s a story behind this loot. My friend, Mandy, sent me a picture asking if I wanted these wood turnings and legs. Me…”come to mama.” Right?? I mean, who would turn this down?

Upcycled Play Kitchen from Kids Desk

Hey, hey, hey! It’s Trash to Treasure Tuesday! It’s the second Tuesday of the month where my blogger friends and I share our latest DIY inspiration for you. I found this super cute kids desk that used to have a hutch (and drawers) set out for trash. It is going to get a new life as an upcycled play kitchen. woot! Hang with me now…

Kids Desk Before Upcycle | prodigalpieces.com

Yes, this little desk is mightily worn and ragged, but there is still life there. You know I’m a sucker for the unloved in furniture, especially when it’s made of wood. Funny thing is my teen daughter was driving to earn driving hours, and I had my older son hop out and grab it. Good kids. haha.

Upcycled Bread Pan Caddy ~ DIY Storage

If you don’t already think I’m quirky in the way my brain works, just wait until you see what I did with this “junk”. Is it junk, really? You know it’s not. It’s what I adoringly call #trashure. Now, let’s have some fun and make an upcycled bread pan caddy. {{doing the cabbage patch}} Just thought I’d date myself a snip.

Old Bread Pans Before Upcycle | prodigalpieces.com

I’m sort of addicted to old bread pans because they have so many uses. Here are a few things I’ve created in years past. Can you guess what the pan is attached to in the second picture?

Farmhouse Cobbler Bin from Thrifted Find

Y’all ready for some fun? I sure hope you enjoy stopping by my part of the online world to giggle, to be inspired, and most of all have fun. In the past I’ve repeatedly said how I never skip over the wood section of the thrift store. Potential awaits! Just like this primitive bin I found. Today, it’s going to become farmhouse cobbler bin. tee hee.

Primitive Bin Before Makeover by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

The key factor I look for in a project is that it is solid wood. Plywood ain’t my jam because it’s hard to rework. This bin is made of solid pine boards, so I tuck it in my cart.

However, before I go any further, I need to give a huge shout-out to my friend, Mandy, who turned this gem over to me. I promised her to do right by her and her ministry. You can see what she does in this past post HERE. She used this desk in her home to create a study space to homeschool her children.

DIY TIME

It’s time for a new look, wouldn’t you say? If you look close, you’ll see a broken drawer pull, chipped up paint, and a sort of jerry-rigged panel fixed to the back to hold the legs on to the rest.

This vintage gem was tucked up on the top shelf with other wood items surrounding it. It may not be pretty now, but it will be. tee hee. With all the changes in our media in today’s world, magazines aren’t quite as numerous as they once were.
