It’s that time again! The second Tuesday of every month (for several years now) my blogger friends and I feature Trash to Treasure Tuesday. woot! While you’ll see their inspirational projects for you in a bit. Check out this cutie I was able to get my hands on. What is it? Well, I’m about to do a DIY sewing box makeover with the coolest sewing box I ever did see.
This box not only has a fun design, but also a large drawer and two ends with roll-top design for spool and bobbin storage.
Isn’t that SO FUN!?
Okay, so now these we’ve established it’s worth saving, it does have a crack I need to repair as well as the knob is partially broken off. No problemo.
RAMP IT UP
First, I will say this was a simple makeover, but took time. You’ll quickly see why. I used wood glue to make the necessary repairs and I also knock off the remaining knob. Then, I take it outside and give it two coats of a flat white spray paint to give it a base to work with.
Next, once I have my base coat, I use my transfer method to create a design suited to this unique shape using these coloring pages. I transfer on the images and hand-paint in.
Here’s a hint… tee hee.
In addition, if you know me, I have a thing for the vintage Volkswagen vehicles (say that five times fast). My first love is BEEP – an Art Deco waterfall dresser that went viral. Likewise, I also created a unique paint brush set in hippie style for a contest (and won – fist pump!!).
SUNSHINE ON THE WAY
Last, after I take time to layer each paint color and then finish with a Sharpie for the details, my DIY sewing box makeover is complete. BEEP!
Inside, you can tuck your notions and essentials.
Meanwhile, the two ends are full of fun too, don’t you think?
Whimsy on the outside and party on the inside!!
With that, you have to tell me, did you see that coming? Not only could I have done a million different things with this, I could have also given it a new purpose too like these sewing boxes HERE.
Additionally, if you’d like to make this part of your home story, you can find this and more in my online store:
