I love that y’all have utmost confidence in me when it comes to junk revival from #trashure. Just look at what I see here…a vintage laundry cart that…er…used to have a purpose. Hot mess, needing a break, and desperate for a new life. All kidding aside, this freebie is something the normal me would snatch up. My mind is reeling from this idea to that…and even salvaged art.
However, as of late, the wind has been knocked out my sails and my creative juices are trickling at best. Yes, I know I could recover the frame with a drop-cloth canvas and add my own grommets and such.
In addition, I could even add casters to make it functional again. But, this time around, I know the cost and effort to bring this back to life is far above what I want to put into it. That means I’m gonna break out my tools and make something completely new. Actually, you can see how I took a plain basket and turned it into an antique laundry cart HERE.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
First, it needs cleaned up! I cut off all the remnant canvas and grommets. Then, I drag it over to my garden hose and give it a good spray. Well, that is when Loula would let me…silly pup.
After that, I let it dry in the hot sun (feels so good BTW), and then contemplate my next steps. I try to use my smaller sledge to beat those uprights into place. It makes it look a bit better, but my mind is made up that I’m going to create salvaged art. I mean, that’s not new to me in any form because that’s what I do as you can see on my blog or in the video below:
- Upcycled Dressing Table into Chest of Drawers
- Vintage Cane Chair Upcycled
- Antique Empire Chest of Drawers Upcycled
- Upcycled Metal Table
- Upcycled Antique Desk into Nightstands
What does that mean? Well, it means my tools get to come out to play like this angle grinder.
While this was a gift, if I had picked either a corded tool or battery-operated for this tool, I would have first picked the corded. When you need a heavy-duty tool, you want power all the way through. Just to cut this half-inch steel, it took me over an twenty minutes and several dead batteries to cut one rod.
However, since my motto has always been #toolsoverjewels, I reach for my hacksaw and have the next rod cut in less than three minutes. hoooo-rah!! Talk about invigorating!
And no…I’m not going to cut my knee…
Last, once I have all the supports cut (which I’m saving for later) I’m ready to create my salvage art.
RUSTIC AND REFINED
Finally, here is my latest creation ready to welcome the autumn season that’s coming fast upon us.
Not only did I create the autumn bunting, but also made it reversible along with a spring/summer one too. Isn’t it crazy that all the seasons have the same number of letters?
Which season is your favorite? I’m not quite ready for autumn yet, but I do enjoy the early parts of it when my sunflowers are in full bloom. Additionally, so does Ivan…tee hee. What’s fun about this is you can also hang flowers, photos, hats, or other memorabilia for each season. I kept it simple for my purpose, but would definitely add more to dress it up as seasons pass by.
Now tell me, would you have taken the time and expense to restore the vintage laundry cart, or would you have upcycled it as well? Don’t forget…I’m not done with it yet. {{wink, wink}} Also, if you’d like to make this salvaged art a part of your home story, you can find it and more in my onilne store.

Whenever I actually think about seasons I think Ecclesiastes 3., and then the Byrds “Turn, Turn ,Turn” My favorite used to be fall, coming off of a hot summer I enjoyed the crispness off the air. The beautiful colors of fall foliage. I think now my favorite is spring because of the birth of baby animals and the rebirth of the plants.
Sometimes staying simple is all that’s needed., and since I can’t see I wouldn’t be able to restore it. I can see pictures clipped to it or s hooks hanging from it in the kitchen to hang utensils on. So many uses for this.

Yes! I sing the song as well. For me, it’s summer…I love being outside all year, but am tired of working in a freezing space. My favorite used to be autumn and still is tops. I honestly love them all. haha.
You got the idea! I was thinking pot rack too – great minds.

Wow! What a clever idea, Larissa! Great job. Thanks for the inspiration.

I truly wanted to restore it as I’ve searched for one forever, but I have no use for such a large item. Then, shipping something like this would cost more than it’s worth. So…chop, chop! 😀 Thank you, Caye.
