Flashback to the awesome days gone by…we have jams with high-top shoes, rolled cuffs on pants, and…geese. Yup. GEESE. Most often you see them wearing bonnets. Why? I have no idea. They’re cute and all, but I’d never put them on my wall. haha (I made a rhyme…did you catch that?). Time for an 80’s decor makeover!
For real though…nothing against geese as I love farm animals. Also, nothing against those that had geese in their home. In addition, my mom did and it suited our country living. However, like all things, times change as our decor tastes do too.
Before I get started, I want to invite you to sign up for my FREE email newsletter. Times are changing online and the best way to stay connected is via my site, not social media and the like. Likewise, there’s no strings attached, and you can choose how often you get updates. Easy!
DIY TIME
First, it’s time to take this dated decor apart. As you can see, it’s just a panel stapled to the back. I just hit it with a hammer from the front side to gently remove it. However, it would be a blast to really beat it up, but…I have a plan.
If you look close at it, you can see how over time the fabrics have yellowed and faded. Aren’t they cute? tee hee.
NEXT STEPS
Next, I’m ready to take this wall box to a whole new level. However, in order to save me a headache, I use paper to give me an idea if my measurements are correct. And, of course, they are…haha. Can you tell where I’m headed with this?
Also, I’m going for a vintage vibe with faux apothecary drawers. Also, you can see how I’ve created similar on these past pieces. First, I cut four pieces out of scrap luan and attached with wood glue and my brad nailer. Then, stained them to match.
Last, I cut another piece of luan to fit the opening on the back for this 80’s decor makeover.
After stain, I whitewashed and added some typography fun using my transfer method. With that in ind, before I show you the full reveal, here’s a peek at what I am doing to the geese.
THE REVEAL
Finally, after that enjoyable DIY adventure my two projects are complete.
Crazy cool, eh? This was super easy to do, especially when you have a great stash on hand. (applause for #trashure!) Plus, my hand-painting really gives me peace. Additionally, I talk to God while working and pray. He is faithful.
The art of the apothecary is one I wish would come back into fashion. Dump the doctors that push pills and go back to nature’s science. Not only did God give us the wisdom, but also what we need right in our own back yard.
SECOND PROJECT
Oh, and don’t forget the geese! Here they are dressed up proper and married to a vintage find.
How about that?! No need to pitch it, it just needed some basic latex paint and some twine. Also, that cool wooden bow makes a fun accent too.
Now, you need to tell me…did you see that coming? haha. Which is your favorite? Do tell!
Likewise, if’ you’d like to make these a part of your home, you can find these available in my online store.
In addition, pin and share so that others can be inspired to have at an 80’s decor makeover too.
Up next, it’s Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION time. Head here to see what these became.
