Going through our home and deciding what to keep and what to pass along can be therapeutic, but also lend to some missed opportunities. What I mean is maybe a certain item no longer brings us a smile, but still offers function. Instead of passing it along, maybe give it a makeover instead. Take, for instance, this thrifted wall pocket. It’s made of metal, has a textured design along with the lacey top. It’s time for a revival!
My goal is to inspire you to see the “boring” or “outdated” as potential for not only fun, but a way to recreate your home story. Are you game? Let’s go!
PICK A STYLE
First, let’s assess where we want to go with tis. The fact that it is metal plays a part in what we can do, as well as it is designed for wall storage, and lends itself to the feminine side. With those things in mind, I envision a shabby chic-ish look with pinks, whites, and bit of dressing up. This Vintage Blush color will give the perfect base coat for my layers.
Then, after two coats of the blush, I let it cure and then add an embossed design using my stencil and spackling. I do the paint first because it gives something for the spackling to stick to.
You can see how I’ve embossed other fun finds in these past posts.
Next, as soon as the spackling cures, I also give it a coat of the same Vintage Blush paint. Once that cures, I use my tape to create stripes and paint in with a soft beige.
It reminds me of a santa tin I redid into a fleur storage box over HERE and a tea box makeover HERE.
Last, I use a flat white spray paint to dress up that lacy top edge and a metallic gold to bring out the embossed design finished by a brown wax for depth.
HANGING BEAUTY
At long last, my thrifted wall pocket makeover is complete and definitely representing a totally new style and vibe. I love it!
The pink makes it softer, while the top edge reminds me of handmade doilies. In addition, the stripes break up the flat design and the embossing gives texture.
What is more, this can be used to tuck in most anything. Hang it on your door full of blooms, hang it in the bathroom with hand towels ready for family and friends. Or use it for your favorite magazines or books. What would you use it for? Better yet, how would you have changed up the original look of this thrifted wall pocket. Do tell!

Looks so good with the hydrangea- it’s almost like you planned it that way….☺️. I have bought many wall pockets and sadly I never end up using them. Thanks for some inspiration Larissa! Have a blessed weekend.

I love a happy accident like this one. I was looking around after I finished it on what to put in it and I just dried these hydrangea, so they fit wonderfully. Thank you, Niki.

That turned out great Larissa. Still looks vintage also!

Thank you! It’s funny how it was made in Ch___, but can still have time-worn appeal.
