Who doesn’t love easy? As you can imagine, there are times I adore getting down and dirty into a project. Then, there are times I truly want simple. Take a look at this empty frame I found at the thrift store. While it used to hold a chalkboard, my goal today is to create simple dollar store farmhouse decor so you can too.
What to do with it? Honestly, I could do soooo many things with the empty slot where the chalkboard used to be like these past projects:
FILL ‘ER UP
First, as I mentioned, there’s an empty space to fill with a slot from the top. Next, I pull out a scrap piece of luan (thin plywood) and cut it to size with my circular saw.
Thankfully, it slides in easily.
After that, before I can assemble this proper-like, I need to do a few things. To begin this dollar store farmhouse decor project, I head to the local store. With ease, I find the wallpaper in the home improvement aisle and the fun accent pieces in the craft aisle.
In addition, I want to paint that frame a soft white to tone down the orange wood.
Meanwhile, I set about staining those wood pieces with a Java gel stain that I used also on these past projects.
Last, but not least, I apply the wallpaper to the backing. Isn’t it such a pretty neutral paper? Likewise, the best part is that it’s adhesive type that is repositionable as well.
THE FINISH
Finally, my dollar store farmhouse decor is ready to add style to your home. For the purpose of delightful decorating, also on a budget, this goes from the thrift store to eye-candy.
Let alone the beautiful wallpaper backing, but also layering the wood cutouts and wood shaving roses really gives lovely feel to it now. In case you’re wondering, I adhere the text with Tacky Glue, the wood sign with e6000 and the roses with hot glue. As a matter of fact, the “home” sign is a tad heavier, and I don’t want it to slide down the wallpaper.
If you look closely, you can see I also added wooden beads to the centers of those wood roses.
As you can imagine, I always enjoy sharing my work with you in my online store. If you’d like to add this to your home story, you’ll find it and more there.
