Upcycled Wine Holder Lantern

Ever come upon something that makes you giggle because it’s so dated and funky? That was the case with this… “thing”. At first, I didn’t know what it was, but after a few twists and turns, I’ve got an upcycled wine holder project in my hand and in my mind.

Do you see it?

While it is falling apart, I plan to take it apart even more to make it into something new and maybe… more useful.

How ’bout those grapes? haha.

They’re headed outta here and I’m game to change it all up.

What’s funny is that as I’m shopping for a few things in the thrift store, I spy some tennis racquets on the bottom of a cart that has items yet to be displayed. As I am peeking around, a young woman literally grabs them out as I’m reaching for them. bwahahaha!

You can have ’em, sista, as I have several at home! I just thought it would be fun to show my kids them and put them back.

Likewise, I head back to minding my own business and let her feel like she won… something.

DISASSEMBLY

First, I remove the loose handle and the upright supports.

Then, I remove the top ring that was designed to hold wine glasses. I trace my salad bowl on the back side of it and cut off the excess with my jigsaw.

Next. I rig up the handle back on by drilling new mount holes and attach from the bottom up.

I see a lantern, don’t you?

After that, I want to create a layered painting because when you have older, dry pine, and use spray paint, it tends to sit on top of the wood. By painting a base coat by brush, the wood gets saturated and finishes better.

For my purposes, I just wanted a dark base, so I use this same green I used in my son’s recent bedroom makeover.

Finally, once that coat cures, I add two more coats of a black spray paint to come up with this final result.

LIGHT IT UP

Here’s my upcycled wine holder turned into a funtastic candle lantern. Isn’t that fun?

Now that you planted the idea, I can totally see the wine table as a lantern. Brilliant!

Would I have purchased the wine holder? Probably not. Would I purchase one now, knowing what I know? Heck ya!

I would have kept walking!!! But, as usual, your amazing eye and talent wins again!!! It’s absolutely adorable!!! ❤️. Happy Autumn and I hope you’re all well and happy! This time of year always puts me in a nesting frame of mind…. Cozy fires, warm stews and soups, sweaters and good books. I love the little things in life!! And while I can’t make it work every day, the days I do are magical!! 🥰

    • Larissa says

I don’t blame you as it definitely didn’t catch my eye because it was appealing! haha!
I’m with you on that… and SLOWING DOWN. I ache to do that at the moment, but timing is not right yet. Hopefully, soon! Thank you for the love, Rebecca.

Larissa looks at things with fresh eyes, she problem solves creatively, and I love how she uses her "stash" of valuable "junk" in the process.

What attracted me to Prodigal Pieces at first was the business name. What kept me interested is her opening up to share her life with her readers. She shares her beautiful creativity, has tutorials in her blog and takes what was old and makes it new again. I have several of her beautiful pieces decorating my home.
