DIY Rustic Carrots from Upcycled Furniture Legs

Spring is just around the corner and I am so excited to see the signs of life in my garden beds. I know some of you already have full blooming, or are even headed into winter on the other side of the world. However, here in Ohio, we are just starting to see buds and smiling cold-weather blooms, like crocus pop out. Today, I’m going to take this misfit bunch of furniture legs and turn then into some spring-like DIY rustic carrots. (giveaway alert!)

There’s a story behind this loot. My friend, Mandy, sent me a picture asking if I wanted these wood turnings and legs. Me…”come to mama.” Right?? I mean, who would turn this down?

Upcycled Play Kitchen from Kids Desk

Hey, hey, hey! It’s Trash to Treasure Tuesday! It’s the second Tuesday of the month where my blogger friends and I share our latest DIY inspiration for you. I found this super cute kids desk that used to have a hutch (and drawers) set out for trash. It is going to get a new life as an upcycled play kitchen. woot! Hang with me now…

Kids Desk Before Upcycle | prodigalpieces.com

Yes, this little desk is mightily worn and ragged, but there is still life there. You know I’m a sucker for the unloved in furniture, especially when it’s made of wood. Funny thing is my teen daughter was driving to earn driving hours, and I had my older son hop out and grab it. Good kids. haha.

Farmhouse Cobbler Bin from Thrifted Find

Y’all ready for some fun? I sure hope you enjoy stopping by my part of the online world to giggle, to be inspired, and most of all have fun. In the past I’ve repeatedly said how I never skip over the wood section of the thrift store. Potential awaits! Just like this primitive bin I found. Today, it’s going to become farmhouse cobbler bin. tee hee.

Primitive Bin Before Makeover by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

The key factor I look for in a project is that it is solid wood. Plywood ain’t my jam because it’s hard to rework. This bin is made of solid pine boards, so I tuck it in my cart.

Upcycled Denim Pocket Purse

Hey friends! Today is Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION time where the last Tuesday of each month I share a fun way to upcycle, reuse, repurpose items into fashion, home decor and more. Today, I’m all about those old jeans and giving them a new life with upcycle denim pocket purses.

Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION series hosted by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | Come learn to create for you and your home | prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpieces

These are a pair of my husband’s old jeans with holes in the seat. Don’t ask me how those got there? ahem. However, instead of chucking them into the trash, there is a whole lotta fabric that still has perfect upcycling purpose.

While I could give you limitless options how to use it all, I’m going to only focus on utilizing those pockets today.

This vintage gem was tucked up on the top shelf with other wood items surrounding it. It may not be pretty now, but it will be. tee hee. With all the changes in our media in today’s world, magazines aren’t quite as numerous as they once were.

Clearance Bin with Geometric Shapes | prodigalpieces.com #prodigalpieces

It is no secret that I love all things wood. Wood is one of the most versatile mediums. Just think of how we enjoy trees for so many things – beauty for our eye to behold, structures we live in, furniture, provides heat, paper in many forms, carvings…I could go on. So, when I find these geometric shapes in a bin for 52Β’ instead of $3.98 I GRAB THEM ALL. hahahaha!!

This is a purse I picked up at the thrift store. Yes, I scour the purse section for real leather so I can cut it up. haha. Doesn’t everyone? In the past, I’ve made headbands for my girls, toys, craft parts, and more from cast-off purses.

Upcycled Wooden Signs into Farmhouse Decor

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…the wood section of the thrift store is veritable gold mine of sorts. You might be scratching your head at what I mean, but you have to remember all the fun I’ve had with the loot I’ve had. I’m going to have some fun and show you what I did with these upcycled wooden signs. Yeehaw!

First, before you think I’m needing more coffee (1) I don’t drink coffee, I’m a nut all the time and proud of it. tsk. (2) think about the versatility of wood in general. I mean, wood…one of the most readily available resources we have for creating homes, furniture, and so much more.
