“Back in the saddle again.” Yes, I missed last month’s Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION post, but that’s because my DIY pet food dispenser (free build plans!) really needed to happen for my sanity’s sake. With that, I’m back at it with a refashioned feed sacks project for you using these flea market finds below. Would you buy dirty feed sacks?
You know I do! I’ve used feed sacks for:
- feed sack purse
- feed sack chair
- feed sack tote
- feed sack ottoman
- feed sack footstool
- feed sack bucket
- feed sack wall art
So, you get that there’s much potential in these beauties. For today, I’m using two of these to update my laundry room. Back in 2018, I had my kitchen remodel reveal which includes my one-butt laundry where I added a utility sink. Also, I traded my cabinet doors under my sink for feed sack curtains.
You can see my burlap curtains are desperately needing a reprieve. Am I right? Not only are they frayed, but also paint spattered when I shook a can of paint, and the lid came flying off spraying paint everywhere.
SWAP OUT
First, instead of sewing a channel for my curtain rod to slide into, I decide to use curtain rings instead. In order to get these sacks ready, I rip the seam and wash/dry them.
Then, I iron the wrinkles out and hang them up. They’re stamped, stained, and the perfect size using only two of the set of four. I’ll make use of the other two next go-around. I’m happy they fit, they slide open instead of bunch up, and I have a minor update to my space.
BURLAP REFASHION
Before I wrap this up, I have to make use of not only the refashioned feed sacks but the old burlap curtains. To do that, I head out to my wood stash and grab these two tongue & groove boards leftover from a curbside haul (aka #trashure)
In order to prep them. I need to cut the tongues off and the uneven edge on the shorter piece.
Next, to prepare the burlap for another use, I sew an edge along one end and create a 7″ deep pocket on the long end of my burlap.
Then, I take my new pocket creation and wrap it around one of the boards and staple it tight.
Finally, I want to dress these up with vintage lace, buttons, stencils, and more. Here, I’m making transfers to iron on fabric.
RELOVED DECOR
Finally, here is the last leg of my refashioned feed sacks and burlap adventure. These two wall pockets are similar but different in minor ways. Don’t they make you crave spring?
The top wall pocket has one of my favorite spring blooms, crocuses. They make the winter cabin fever go away.
However, the bottom wall pocket features another favorite, daffodils.
This was a fun adventure for me to dig into my creative side and getting to share it with you is a blessing. If you’d like to own either of these, you can find them and more in my online store.
SHARE
What is more, I’d love to hear from you about these refashioned feed sacks and burlap creations. I invite you to leave some comment love as well as pin and share. Additionally, let’s inspire others to make their own home story in their own way.

I love your grandma!! 😀 You are definitely not the first to tell me that and most likely (Lord willing) you won’t be the last. Love ya!

I have a flour sack sun dress my grandmother made me when I was small. It has a hem line where she made a big hem to let down as I grew. I would not take anything for it.

That is simply amazing!!! I just love it. I wish I could see it too.

Hi Larissa! Both projects worked out great. Simple but functional and fun. I like the wall pockets- well because I’m still in need of something to put mail in rather than the corner of our island. Anyway I had to take a little break for a bit, which was meant to be longer but I missed your blog.
My goal this year was to be more positive and intentional. That train derailed real quick as I was mourning the loss of a friend’s husband, and then my friend and Bible study leader, co-worked, sometimes life coach passed away after an extremely short battle with cancer. So I am very happy to be back letting your projects boost my joy!

Niki, thank you for loving on my work. I appreciate it always. My heart goes out to you in your time of grief. It’s so hard to try to do life in those times. Sending hugs from the heart!
