There I was minding my own business headed to get my groceries when I drove down my block and turned the corner. As I was passing by, I did a complete rubber-necker when I saw ornate metal sitting on top of a trash can. Did my eyes just see a vintage bird cage? I put on my brakes, turned around and here’s what I saw…
BINGO! I am excited to find it, but it also boggles my mind as to why anyone would toss this out instead of donating it or finding it a new home. Funny thing is, this is the same house I also mentioned previously in this post. This vintage bird cage is what I found the first week, then the next week a slew of other things, and finally the third week the entertainment stand and basket.
I have yet to get to the entertainment center, so stay tuned for that.
A BIRD IN THE HAND
Okay, so back to the bird cage. This particular one is so pretty and ornate and there’s really not a thing wrong with it. You can see what I did with another bird cage HERE. They’re just so fun to make use of in many ways. Since we’re supposedly in spring (although we still have snow…tsk), I’d like to use it as a part of my spring decor.
Yes, it does have rust, but doesn’t that just add to the patina perfection that old(er) pieces have? I mean, we get gray hairs and wrinkles that are earned by years of living. Not everyone is so blessed to reach that point in life. So, I say why not let a little rust be the glitter that tells a story, right?

SPRINGTIME
After a bit of cleaning it up, I daresay I’m smitten with it in my bedroom.
All I did was fill it with a few of my finds and my sweet little aloe start planted in a thrifted sugar dish. Likewise, old books and a gathering of my vintage clothespins in a cider gallon jug, and these sweet antique terra cotta pots are fun too, don’t you think?
I literally can use so many things to fill this up each and every season. What would you fill it with? You can even hang it with bits and baubles, or maybe, a plant too. I’m not much for caging animals…be free! Likewise, you can find my bee skep tutorial HERE.
Also, with my heart longing for summer days, those clothespins and laundry basket make me so eager to hang my laundry outside. I already do all winter, but there’s nothing like the summer sun.
While I’d love to keep this vintage bird cage, I don’t need it and I’m listing it in my online shop. If it doesn’t sell, I’m a keepin’ it!

I have a small decorative birdcage I picked up at a thrift store years ago. I have it hanging outside in a tree. I added little bird figurines along with a small nest. It’s fun to see. I do like how you have it displayed, maybe I’ll bring mine inside for awhile.

I have a huge Hobby Lobby birdcage my sister bought me for my wedding rental business ( I don’t have a wedding rental business anymore). Right now it has moss and a willow tree nativity in it. I t takes up so much room I just need to sell it but I guess I could use it for a terrarium if I don’t.

It baffles me what people are willing to let rot in the landfill especially when there are so many struggling who could put those perfectly useable items to good use. Thank goodness for folks like you (and me) who see the potential in their trash!
