Do you ever find inspiration in the weirdest spots? I know I’m a rare sort, but I do love to share with you my whimsical ways. I was out shopping at the thrift store, which I rarely have time for, and found this vintage jewelry box.
Initially, I felt sort of sorry for it. It was so simple and plain, though I do enjoy simple. However, when you open it up, it’s like BAM!
Beautiful blue! One of my favorite colors, so you know, of course, I had to bring it home. As I’ve mentioned many times in the past, I love to find wood items that still have potential. I can’t wait to dress this one up. You can see what I’ve done to create jewelry storage in these past posts.
DIY TIME
First, I wanted to make sure the surface was free and clear of any residue and debris. I used a vinegar water mixture (1:2 ratio) to wipe it down. Then, I begin my fun. eep! To create a base layer, I use a similar color to the interior I had on hand to paint the vintage jewelry box.
Then, after the base layer of paint cures, I add a layer of metallic blue to the top and middle section.
Next, I took artistic license and got lost in my fun. When I originally saw that blue, a peacock came to mind. So, a peacock is what I paint…
I won’t say I have much more to share about my DIY steps because I got lost in my work. Do you ever do that? I sure hope so…it’s wonderful! However, I’m excited to share the after with you.
THE REVEAL
I debated on what to add to the side band, but settled on a feather motif. I think it suits it.
The inside remains mostly the same, but now that blue felt is really showcasing the jewelry.
My goal is to inspire you, so I hope you are enjoying this as much as me. If you’d like to add this to your home, you can find it and much more available in my online shop. (SOLD)
Do pin and share my vintage jewelry box makeover to inspire others. It’s fun to create!

How fun! The top is lovely but the feathers on the side really make it. Can’t wait to see what you do with the chair. I have a rocker similar to it and have been struggling to make a decision about it. Looking forward to some Larinspiration!

What you have done to that jewelry box is absolutely stunning. Love the peacock. You done a beautiful job.
I had found a box very much like that a few weeks ago and a thrift store. (square corners on mine)
Wasn’t a jewelry box but it was a box that was a perfect fit to hold our family Bible in.

Thank you, Colleen. I love those kinds of boxes too. What a treasure you have!
