Oftentimes, I can soooo relate to my project pieces. They’re worn down, wouldn’t have chosen their lot, and need loving hands. Enter in my derelict planter. Yes, it has taken a dive with no hope of return to planter status. However, I am seeing whiskey barrel staves art coming right up!
Now, before you say… “why didn’t you just fix it?” First, you have to take a quick minute to read how it came from the curb to me HERE. Also, you can see what I do with the rings HERE.
BREAK IT DOWN
Okay, so after a few times of hammering that rusty ring back into place, and also our local drought, I decide to plant my oregano among my raspberries. There, it will flourish and benefit the berries and vice versa. After that, I gather the staves and start scheming… er… planning.
Not only are there several to make use of, but also that patina is so gorgeous! Yes, I could easily toss it into my burn scrap pile for winter warmth, but these are too good to pass on.
In order to keep this fun and simple, I lay out a few pieces in a square-ish pattern. I’ll make use of that barrel ring for something fun later on.
Next, I dig into my reclaimed wood stash to cut two pieces to position top to bottom on the outer ends that will allow me to attach the slats. I’ll be using these salvaged rusty screws to add even more patina.
Yes, I save most anything. Oh, and if you want to make your own rusty hardware, just use my rust recipe HERE.
Then, as soon as I have it assembled, I add a heavy-duty wire hanger so it can be wall mounted.
After that, I paint on a sweet verse suiting our current season using my transfer technique explained HERE. Of course, you can make this into any design your heart desires.
AUTUMN APPEAL
Last, but not least, here’s my whiskey barrel staves art ready to celebrate the autumnal season. Fall is nearly here!
Much like that planter that wouldn’t have chosen to be broken, I know that change can be just what we need.
As I was I was out de-heading my sunflowers, I saw this lil’ cutie peeking at me claiming this head for its own.
I adore each of the four season I am blessed to experience each year. However, I wish winter would share more months with summer – just sayin’.
Additionally, if you’d like to have this sign, you can find it and more in my online store.

I like the attitude, personality maybe of the sign and what it says! I’m ready for fall.; and have enjoyed cooler temps, not cold temps though lol.
The whiskey staves are a great backdrop and yes I would’ve saved them as well.
