DIY Harvest Time Sign for Autumn

Do you ever make a mistake with a project and want to just throw it out the door? Well, I do make mistakes and this time, particularly, I couldn’t throw it out. It’s wood! So instead of burning this wood round that gave me fits, I decided to turn it into something new. Check out how I created a DIY harvest time sign for the beginning of our autumn season.

Truth be told, I broke this thing when I was building a pedestal table out of a broken hall tree. You can read all about that HERE. What happened was when I was tapping the top on, I Read more

Upcycled Cheese Dome Cloche for Autumn

Seasons change and so does our decor along with it, right? One could easily take a shopping cart and head to the nearest box store and fill up with what’s in stock. However, I love the challenge of creating my own decor from unwanteds, thrifted finds, and incorporating natural elements. To share with you how my mind’s eye works, I’m going to demonstrate what I did with this upcycled cheese dome and a few other cast offs. Let’s have some crafty fun!

What you’re looking at is the aforementioned cheese dome, a large candle pillar, a broken leaf rake handle, and an empty mint tin. Now, before you think I’ve fallen off my proverbial rocker, hang with me. I’m looking to Read more

Corn Husk Pumpkins & Wreath ~ Fireplace Makeover

I’m BAAACK!! In case you didn’t know, I took a blogging break last week to get our homeschooling year off to a good start and get caught up on a few things. That break resulted in our entire family getting a nasty chest cold and myself ending up with a broken toe. So did I get much done? Nope, but we did manage to get our barn wood for our kitchen counters. I share more details in my newsletters, so be sure to sign up. And… there’s  more good news! Today is Trash to Treasure Tuesday and I’m all about some corn husk. I know I’m corny. hee hee hee

Basket of Sweet Corn for Crafting by Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com

Be sure to check out the bottom of the post for what my blogger friends have worked on for you too!

So many people are starting to decorate their homes for the coming fall season and though I hang onto every thread of summer, I decided to go ahead and get some crafting done. I wanted to give you a chance to get some of your own fall decor made before you’re ready to decorate.

Here’s what’s funny…I had no intention to take on my fireplace as a project right now since our family room is next on our agenda. I keep telling myself, “Stay focused…kitchen!” However, when I got it all taken apart here’s what I saw:

One blank boring mess. We will be tearing out that carpet and redoing a few things, but my future goal was to freshen up this fireplace when the remodeling was done. Well…my little self saw fit to tackle it now because…I WANTED TO. (laughs wickedly) Read more

Patio Reveal ~ Our DIY adventure

The time has finally come. Are you ready for a tour of our patio makoever? We are!! First, I want to give a huge shout-out to my hubby and kids. Without them this massive undertaking would not have happened. We’ve poured countless hours outside of our normal workload building and creating a family space we can now all enjoy. Second, I would to thank my sponsors, DFO Home and HomeRight. Their awesome products (see previous post for details) have made this makeover even better than imagined.

Let the tour begin! It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t take you back to where it all started…with the hand-me-down patio set my parents gave me. You can read more on the before here.

When looking to create my fall mantlescape for this season, I wanted to stray from my typical fall orange-yellow-red color scheme, like I did for this display a couple of years ago. I craved a simple palette that would help me transition into the seasons yet to come.

It all started with this pile of scrap wood pieces that came from our master bedroom remodel that we revealed this past spring.

When we took down our shelves in our bedroom, I didn’t want to reuse the corbels that were there because they were bulky and took up too much space. So I replaced them with iron brackets instead. Since nothing goes to waste around here, we ended up using those wood corbels for building our window boxes we added this spring as well.  When building the boxes, the original corbels had too large of a profile, so we trimmed them down and left us with that pile above. (Didn’t my hubby do good?)

I have saved them in a box for over a year, becasuse…well…they were cool looking and I knew I could come up with some good use for them other than our burn pile. There were several ideas that came to mind, but then inspiration struck and here’s what I came up with… Read more

DIY: Reclaimed Wood Fall Harvest Sign

Fall is just around the corner and it’s one of my favorite seasons. For me, living in farm country, it means harvest time! All the wonders of creation performing their grand finale and we get to reap the benefit of such splendor. There’s nothing like a cup of hot cider on a cool fall evening, a hearty pile of pumpkins, or a long hayride with our loved ones. That’s what I envisioned when deciding what to create for this month’s Power Tool Challenge. (there’s all sorts of DIY goodies for you at the bottom of this post!) Here is my treat to you, a fall harvest sign.

Repurposed Pumpkins – Gettin’ junky with it!

Can you believe it’s already September? wow. Where did summer go? I realize that some of you live for the fall season, and I have to admit, it’s always been one of my favorites. Who can deny the onset of crisp, cool evenings, harvest time, days getting shorter making for fun campfires that last long into the evening? Or how about apples that make cider, pumpkins into pies, and the endless tomato creations you can make? Okay, so I think I’m ready for the fall season, and to kick it off right, I’m getting junky with it. tee hee. I’m all about some repurposed pumpkins.

Red ticking, white canvas, barn wood scraps and railroad tie spikes…oh yeah!
