Put your hands together for Trash to Treasure Tuesday!! This is my favorite time of month where my blogger friends and I get together to show you how we take something that’s been cast-off and give it new life. We’ll get to their projects in a bit. First, let me show you my subject for this month’s makeover. Would you like to see this broken chair repurposed into a shelf?
A few years back my best girlfriend said she didn’t have the heart to throw this thing out. Bless her heart because she knew I might like to have a try at it. Ummm…yes. I love a good challenge, and I must admit I have had it for a few years. Not only did she give me this chair, but also this antique chair. You can see how I gave it a new look in this post.
So you can see why we have much in common, the love of old things, farmhouse life, and raising our families with a love for the Lord. Thank you for being you, Connie!
In deciding what it should become, I had many ideas from turning it round and round and upside down. However, the most logical idea for me is a broken chair repurposed shelf. This is where it gets oh-so-fun for me because I get to dig into my stash and create. First, here are a few things I pulled out to play with…
You’re looking at some barn wood from our kitchen remodel, two broken rake handles (yes I saved them. ahem), a couple of turnings from vintage bunk beds, and a few old hooks left from our bathroom remodel.
THE FINISH
Consequently, after digging around some more, I found some pieces of a set of antique legs that I had remnant from making this crate ottoman.
All these pieces came into play as my idea began to come to fruition. I used the broken rakes for shelf support. In addition, I used them to plug the holes that were left from the previous life.
Last, here is what that old broken rocking chair looks like now.
It has spunk, it has function, and it has a story. Can you see the saw lines in the barn wood?
That is first growth oak that you just can’t find anywhere. I love it when something is telling you a story in a subtle way.
So, my junkin’ cup is full again and I’m so happy with the outcome of this project. Suffice it to say that it paid off for it to be staring at me for the last couple of years. If this new creation catches your eye, you can make it yours by heading to my shop.
Additionally, you would make my day if you would pin and share this funkified chair.

I have a passion for old chairs and your re-purpose is perfect. And of course you saved the broken rake handle whats wrong with that. It’s like having dowel rods on hand. It it adorable and very useful.

Oh yes, dowel is a high commodity item here. Gotta save it! Especially because I build toys for my kids. 🙂 Thank you, Jolinda!
