Upcycled Chair Legs into Farmhouse Signs

It’s time for the final Part 3 of the upcycled trashure fun I’ve been having with my busted chairs found dumpster-side. While I normally feature my Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION fun this last Tuesday of the month, I’ll catch back up to that next month. As for my chair fun, you can see Part 1 HERE and Part 2 over HERE. Today, I’m making use of the last bits, per Lily’s approval. It’s time for some upcycled chair legs turned into farmhouse signs. Let’s DIY!

As you can see, Lily makes herself comfortable wherever she pleases. While I was debating on what to do with the rest of the chairs – the legs and rails, I had them set like this. Sadly, the parts weren’t in great enough condition to make them into a seat bearing weight. However, I was thinking a pet canopy bed would be a blast to create. Likewise, Lily seems to agree.

DIY TIME

To make that happen, first, I tried using my pocket hole jig. Unfortunately, after a few damaged fingers and thing not working like I’d hoped, I decide to throw in the towel. No problem. Time for plan B. As any good junker does, you always have a few ideas rolling around your head just in case.

Enter in my stash. A good junker also always has a stash. Right??

For example, I have this vintage wooden sled that needs a new life.

Then, some leftover chain-link from my chandelier in our family room.

Last, these chippy corbels and some scrap wood. Aren’t these bits and baubles fun?

NEXT STEPS

Next, I cut a few pieces of scrap wood after busting up that vintage sled. I am using the sled as a template to make a few signs. Then, I paint each one to prep it for signage. One set will be chalk board style, and the other will be a vintage style. And, of course, they will have some typography using my transfer method.

I know I can get running headstrong into my projects, so I hope this crazy little adventure makes sense. Meet my latest creations.

THE REVEAL

First, here’s my funky fun sign made from the vintage sled, corbel, scrap wood and my upcycled chair legs.

Would you guess that the sign is actually the sled I took apart? Much better this way.

SECOND SIGN

Baked goods, anyone? This one is fun because it’s a contrasting reverse of the first sign.

I can almost smell the fresh baked pies and breads…mmm…nothing like the heel of a fresh loaf lathered in butter. Okay, I am now hungry. ahem.

Next, I also didn’t want the rest of that sled to go to waste, so here’s my vision for it. tee hee.

Above all, not only am I wanting to inspire you, but I also hope you can smile at what someone’s trash (aka. #trashure) can become. I know it takes a vision, but all you need do is try too. Which is your favorite project of the three? If you’re not the DIY type or just love these signs, you can find them and and more available in my online shop.
