So…this followed me home…ahem. Don’t you believe me? Well, if you’ve hung around with me for long, you know that I have a strong affinity for all things dressing tables. One of my very first projects was a gorgeous Art Deco set I named My Painted Lady. This gal below has sleek lines, a beautiful mirror, but needs some luv. Moreover, join me for my updated Art Deco dressing table makeover.
This set has been patiently waiting for my attention about six months in my garage. During that time, I would walk by and try to envision what sort of update to complete. Never-mind the clutter, k? Besides, it’s a workshop, what can I say…
Just for reference’s sake, you can see my past dressing table (aka. vanity) makeover in these past posts. It’s been a few years since I’ve had the time to work on one, so I’m excited to do this.
DIY TIME
First, I assess what needs done. The obvious: worn finish with water rings and flaking finish. The hidden: cracked frame and rust. However, there’s definitely more good than bad, so I say that’s a win. Next, I break out my orbital sander and knock off the finish completely on the drawer fronts, bench, and table top.
Then, it’s time to remove the upholstered top.
It is the original fabric, which I’m sure is all the rage at the time. What is more, the play off the edgy lines in the upholstery play off the curves in the dressing table design.
Last, it’s time to add some color to this updated Art Deco dressing table makeover. If you saw the oak pedestal table I made over a few weeks ago, you can see I use this color.
While I’m waiting for paint to cure, I use a white wax on the oak veneer faces I’m leaving raw wood. Meanwhile, after that I apply clear wax on the paint to give it longevity.
THE REVEAL
Finally, after my small stent of DIY fun, my updated Art Deco dressing table is ready to go.
It has a fresh, new vibe that really brings it to life, don’t you think? I’m excited with the outcome. Not only does this piece make a statement, but it is also solid and built to last.
Likewise, the lines really draw your eye into that huge 44″ mirror. Not to mention, staging such a huge beauty is hard! haha. Then, on the other hand, you have new upholstery that is reminiscent of the old. Also, it’s protected by Scotchguard as well.

I am Stunned! Can you share what brand and color paints you used ? Ive been trying to find color ideas for so long for a similar piece I have and this is by far the winner. Wow!
aww… thank you, Leah. The blue is Highland Blue Rustoleum milk paint and that’s the only paint I used. The rest was refreshed with white wax. Hope that helps! 😉
