If you want to find me in a happy spot, you’ll find me in the country, and maybe even in a barn. Yep, a barn. Not just because of the animal friends you’ll find me around, but also because of the treasures hidden there. Take a look at what I was able to come into from a friend. Let’s have some fun with making our own flea market farmhouse decor, shall we?

If you’ve been around a week or so ago, you’ll remember that a friend of mine invited me to come shop her barn. Talk about my kinda shopping! Aside from the turned posts I scored and turned into my desk set and the antique terra cotta pots I staged in my upcycled ladder creation. This time around, I have two, one-gallon jugs, and a pretty cool crate.

DIY TIME

First, I will start with this rough crate. It’s pretty solid for the most part, but the bottom has seen the worst (which is perfectly normal)

To remedy that, I take out the slats and also clean up the one end that has a missing piece.

I’ll use the bottom slats to replace the side panel. Then, I dig into my stash for a few of the dog-ear fence boards I scored from my neighbor’s trash pile a few years back. A few cuts on my miter saw and using my handy nailer, I’m able to put on a new bottom. Also, I create a top using reclaimed boards from my patio coffee table.

Additionally, I these hooded casters to the bottom of the crate for added functionality. You see, I have a thing for all things crates. You can see my past projects using them in my kitchen remodel, how I made a stand, a footstool, and also these upcycled crate projects HERE.

NEXT STEPS

For the purpose of making more flea market farmhouse decor, I’m also updating one of the two jugs. The original label on the cider jug is too good to mess with. However, the other one is plain and perfect for dressing up a bit. BTW…if you ever want to clean inside old bottles, just add a bit of soap, sand, and warm water and swish.

Thankfully, I have some rope on hand for various projects, particularly my DIY beehive fun. First, my goal is for a demijohn effect. I begin by using my rope and hot glue gun to tack on an end while the jug is upright.

Next, I lay it on its side and continue to glue in beads around the base working my way up. The hot glue makes it fast and easy, but also it can be removed in the future if you like.

DECORATING TIME

At last, we have our flea market farmhouse decor ready to add to our story-telling home. Let’s take a peek!

The pineapple crate has a destiny to be more. With the addition of the casters and lid, it now can function in most any room of the home. Tuck in magazines in the living room, or toilet paper in the bathroom, or even store your pet supplies too.

Now for those jugs, shall we? As I already mentioned, I left the vinegar jug as-is. I love the original label. On the other hand, the plain one now has a rustic demijohn appearance using my rope and my coconut fabric scraps.
