Broyhill Hutch Desk Refreshed with Removable Wallpaper

Do you have a bucket list? Ya know. A list that holds either coveted events, or places you’d like to go? In all the years I have been working on furniture, there are a few different types or styles of furniture that I haven’t had a chance to work on. Today, I’m taking one of them off my bucket list and showing with you how easily I refreshed this Broyhill hutch desk with my favorite sprayer andΒ removable wallpaper. Yes, I did say removable.

Broyhill Hutch Desk Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

You might be wondering why a hutch desk would be on my bucket list. Well, they are versatile, functional, and are typically kinda boring like this one. I wanted to take a sort of ugly duckling and make it shine. This one in particular caught my eye because it had nice form and was a Broyhill hutch desk, however, it was dated. Don’t you just love the pressed acorns? I half expected a squirrel to scamper by Read more

China Cabinet Makeover with Wallpaper

In all of my furniture adventures, I have yet had the opportunity to work on a china cabinet. Ya know, those big brown beasts from days of old? Seriously, they can be pretty cool when done right and I wanted a chance at this one I found on Craigslist.

What a beast to move though! You can imagine the look I got from my husband. ahem. Anyhoo, it came into my possession and quickly got dismantled. Aren’t the details fantastic?

Before you give the “no, don’t paint it” thought. This isn’t entirely solid wood, but rather that 1960’s style with the speckled finish onto a veneer much like this dresser I recently did. This china cabinet was looking tired with its damaged backing and superficial wear, which could all be relieved with an update. The carvings, trim and doors are solid though, which makes this a wonderful piece. Read more

Farmhouse Chest of Drawers from the Curb

It’s time for Round 3 of my #trashure curbside haul. To catch you up to speed, this is the pile I scored from one person’s yard during our spring city cleanup. I’ve already made over that pie crust table and dog shelf. It’s time to tackle that awfully painted piece and turn it into a farmhouse chest of drawers for our Trash to Treasure fun.

If you remember, I asked JC (aka. husband) which piece he would have left on the curb. He said the chest. {{gasp}} In spite of the obvious, I replied that it was the Read more

Cottage Style Home Decor on a Budget

In my last post, I began a fun adventure to show you what I would do with this curbside haul. My journey began with the antique pie crust table and today I’m tackling that 80’s hunting scene shelf. My goal is to show you how to take something that may not fit your decor and make it new. Join me as I transform that shelf into cottage style home decor.

Antique Dressing Table Set Updated

You can call me crazy or maybe infatuated, but I can’t resist a beautifully crafted piece of furniture. I’m especially drawn to pieces that have been left unloved or so loved that they need help. I call it passion, a true love in seeing restoration come to those who need it most – even people. When this antique dressing table set came up in an ad on my screen, I knew I had to give it some lovin’.
