‘Tis the season for baking! With the holidays in full swing, we look forward to cookies, cakes, and all things in between. Do you have a dedicated space for your baking essentials? Maybe you need a baking cabinet like the one I’m creating to inspire you today.
If you remember a few weeks ago, I took a different cabinet and created a DIY coffee bar. Funny thing is, I purchased this cabinet above at the same time. However, I think it suits a totally different use (though it can be used for coffee too)
I’ve never denied my passion for casters. So, when I found two pieces that both have mobility, I am elated. woot! Do you blame me? Extra storage is one thing, but having them be portable is definitely a bonus. Plus, there’s a hidden jewel inside.
DIY TIME
Let’s get this baking cabinet makeover party started! First, I tackle the wear and tear. There are gouges and wear that I fill with wood filler and sand it down. Next, it’s time to paint.
The outside is getting a custom-mixed gray, while the inside is getting a brighter touch to make it feel clean and refreshed.
Last, but not least I add the finishing touches to my baking cabinet. After I compete the painting, it’s time to add hardware and any topcoat. I chose to change out the hardware with bin pulls, and the casters with brand new ball casters. They’re looking pretty rough, aren’t they?
Then, I line the drawers with paper, and wax the routed details and we’re good to go. In addition, notice I’m using a Square Brush that has past it’s paint prime. These brushes are handy for so many things.
THE REVEAL
Finally, here is my brand new baking cabinet ready to be put into action. woot!
I’m excited with how the finish came out and even more so that it is fully functional. Inside is the little secret gem that makes this cabinet even more versatile.
How cool is that? This built-in cutting board took me by surprise. It’s untouched and tucks away into the back end of the drawer.
Then, the inside is full of storage potential as well. All I did was add a few hooks to make it even more functional. Likewise, keeping things easy to find and easy to access are key to me.
Likewise, if you’d like to own this baking cabinet, you can add it to your kitchen arsenal. My shop offers furniture, vintage and antique finds, as well as handmade items.
SHARE
In addition, do pin and share this baking cabinet makeover to encourage others to make functional space in their home. It’s fun, easy, and definitely affordable.

Won’t be painting anything for awhile as we are having freezing temperatures here in Texas. In the meantime I have been staying inside where it’s warmer. Just too cold to be painting outside right now.
Enjoy your day, stay safe & stay healthy.
We have oodles of snow…I hear ya! I paint inside, so that doesn’t stop me. haha. 😀
Gorgeous!! Function definitely meeting form here!!! ?. And who isn’t thinking about baking this time of year? What a lovely gift to thank someone who does a lot of Christmas baking?? ?
Right?? It makes me happy to work on pieces like this. So many uses for crafts, baking, gift wrap station…etc. Thanks, Rebecca!
Amazing transformation! I have a small antique desk cabinet that I would love to transform into a coffee bar!
Thank you, Amy. That sounds like a perfect project piece.
You have made this piece of furniture gorgeous. It is so functional and love the hidden cutting board! I have so many projects that need painting i don’t know where to start! Thank you for the opportunity to win this giveaway!!!
It was so absolutely fun, especially because it’s so functional. Often, things like that are boring. haha. My pleasure! 😀
What a great makeover. The fact that it is mobile is an added bonus. The Zibra brushes look so handy, especially that short handle one. I can see how useful that would be to get inside of furniture. I have gone to using fingers at times! This brush would be a bit less messy! Thanks for all your give aways. You are so kind to do this for your readers/followers.
Thanks! Yes, not just for baking, but crafts or any creative fun. The short handle is definitely the bonus on these. Makes better use for my hands.
Another great upcycle 🙂 I would like to try painting a piece of furniture if I win the brushes. Thanks for this opportunity.
You bet! I know you’ll love them too.
Lovely!
Thank you, Amanda!:D
I too, love to makeover old furniture. Love this cabinet!
It’s just so fun to update them. Thanks!
I love smaller pieces of furniture like the last two you updated. They always sell quickly. Thanx!
They are fun to do and easy to ship. wink, wink.
Sweet little makeover! I just added casters to some vintage club chairs in my family room and love both the look and practicality. Zibra brushes would be great for the vintage mantle I’m working on.
I’m so not ready for winter but feel it’s a necessary part of the cycle so that we can have spring, rebirth and all the beauty of the warmer months.
Stay warm!
They literally make a world of difference. Here’s to casters on everything! haha! I’m not ready for winter, but the sooner we start the sooner we get to spring (at least that’s what I’m telling myself). 🙂
I really like this piece! How come I can never find things like this?!? Beautiful job, Larissa, as always!
Me either! haha! And I found two! Thanks so much, Kim.
You never disappoint! Another great transformation. Always amazed how you can see the potential of a piece.
aww…I could hug ya, Laurie. Thank you!
Great project – beautiful AND functional! Love it! ?
I so glad you think so. Thank you!
This looks great Larissa! What a unique cutting board – it reminds me that i want to add a breadboard when we remodel our kitchen!
Oooh…that’s the spirit, Gwen! I hope you do. They’re so handy.
I love this cabinet! I love the color, the cutting board, and the pulls! Great job!!!
I would love to own a set of those Zibra brushes and the first thing I would paint with them is my vintage dressing table. I use it as-is but it really needs some help.
Sounds good.
I have a similar cabinet that I want to make a small kitchen island out of. Mine is shorter than yours but I bought casters. I love Zibra brushes. I just need to decide on a color.
They are so handy to have. The brushes are great! I hope you like me work today as well. 🙂
Looks great! Love the hidden cutting board! We went through and reorganized our whole kitchen this summer and created zones, so I have a baking zone all nice and tidy and I’m loving it!
That is my favorite part (aside from the casters, of course. 😉 ). I love that idea!
That cabinet is a great make over, wish I had your vision. Thanks for the Zibra giveaway.
Thanks! It sure is fun to recreate pieces that just need some oompf. 😉 You’re welcome!
I love this! What a great way to add space in a small kitchen—storage and workspace!! ❤️ I always enjoy seeing your creative projects. Thanks for sharing.
Yahoo!! 😀 Thank you, Sheri. I would love to have a dedicated baking space.
I love what you did with the baking cabinet – I’d just love to have one of those. The first thing I’d paint with my Zibra brushes would be my bedroom dresser. Thanks for the giveaway.
Thanks you bunches, Kelly! I have such fun sharing my DIY fun. You’re welcome!
Awesome makeover! Can’t believe that cutting board was never used!! What a wonderful surprise. Enjoy the blessedness of the Holiday Season!
My thoughts exactly too! I love that it comes out to be able to use where you see fit. You too!
So functional! I wish I had the space for a cabinet devoted to baking, especially one as pretty as this. 🙂
Wouldn’t it be sweet! At least this makes it more plausible. haha.
As usual, a very fine job indeed, Larissa! It’s very nice and a great idea. Your supplies are so neatly arranged and mine are so NOT! Great job and great idea!!
haha! I love to be able to find my things and not have so much clutter. It isn’t always easy! 😀
Great Idea!!
Yay! Thank you so much!
This would be perfect for a small kitchen and so handy to keep all those baking items in one spot. And I love the color. Usually I prefer lighter colors in the kitchen, but that would work with light cabinets or even wood. Beautiful!
That was my thinking…great minds! I felt it should be darker if it were going to be used often. Thanks!
What a beautiful makeover, and a very versatile piece of furniture!
How kind of you to say, Linda. Thank you!
Great piece for a small kitchen.
Thanks! Also, it would work for crafts, a beverage station and more. I just went with baking for the fun of it. 😀
Turned out fabulous!
woot! Thank you so much!
Awesome little cabinet. Love!!!
Hooray! Thank you so much, LeAnn. 😀
Love the cabinet and your paint choice
Thank you, Beth. I love mixing up my own colors.
What a cool piece! I’ve never seen one before! Beautiful finish! Love that apron on Zibra’s Facebook page! Do you know if we can purchase them?
Me either…I love it! 😀 Thanks so much. I used to offer them in my shop, but now I primarily purchase online HERE.
This turned out beautiful! Everyone should have a cute baking cabinet like this one!
I’m with you. It makes your the fun reach a new level. 😀 Thank you for the love!
Just getting ready to paint or stain 100 year old dresser from my dads house after he passed. And I broke my hand yesterday falling on some ice! So I guess I am going to have some more time to decide how I am going to refinish this gorgeous dresser with the mirror. It would be great with a new set of brushes as well.
I’m so sorry, Maric! Ouch…I would go crazy with my hand injured. Been there done that. Praying for quick healing. Hugs!!
WOW Larissa this turned out PERFECT!!! I love the color choice!! The Casters make it so versatile!! You always do such great work!! Thanks for doing such a great giveaway!! I have 2 of the Zibra Paint Brushes and I absolutely LOVE it!! I have the 1″ corner brush (I think that’s what it’s called) and the 2″! I’ve wanted the whole set for a long time! Girly you know us crafters can NEVER have to many brushes!!! ? Merry Christmas to you & your family!!!
Blessings, Erica
Erica, you are such a fun gal! 😀 Thank you so very much for the smile and affirmation. I truly had fun with this. Sounds like you’re bitten by the Zibra love bug too. I seriously can’t say enough good about them. Woot!
I’d paint Christmas decor!
I was amazed when I saw this cabinet on your post. I used to have this cabinet, but yours is missing the upper part. It was a microwave cabinet back in the early 90’s when microwave ovens were the size of small car! I ordered the cabinet from JCPenny catalog. It came flat in a box –some assembly required. The microwave oven sat on the top of the base cabinet-which is what you have. Then above the oven was a smaller closed cabinet that held all my glassware. It came with the castetrs. I gave it to my nephew when he set up housekeeping after a divorce.
I like the paint combo that you have done. You have really clever talent.
I remember that, actually, as I think a friend’s parents owned one. haha! Time flies, doesn’t it?
Hi Larissa, that is a great baking cabinet. I love everything about it. Specifically, the built in cutting board.
It sure was fun to work on. I love functional pieces with style.
Still haven’t attempted to paint my dinning set but hope to someday!
Thanks for all the inspiration over the years. Happy Holidays!
You can do it! 😀 Having the right tools certainly helps. Merry Christmas! 😀
This is such a pretty little cabinet now! Loaded with practicality too! Super nice job on this one. It makes me want to get out the paint… but not this week – busy days! ?
haha…right? Much too busy around here, but so much to get done too. Crazy!
I love that super short brush!
Me too!
Love! I always love your makeovers! Hmmm….first thing I would paint is anything I can get my hands on! 😉 I am shut down for winter as well. Merry Christmas & Blessings to you & yours!
Sounds good! 😀
I have a floor standing jewelry box that I want to redo.
