Are you ever motivated by the sheer challenge of something? Call me crazy, but sometimes I take on projects merely because I want to make it better, different. Take this Ohio State… thing. I’m from the buckeye state (O-H…) but I want to make something new with this and the other decorative accent I found. I see a DIY picture ledge made with salvaged items that will be a fantastic accent to any home.

OSU is where I attended for a time until I transferred to a school in Georgia for the next three years where I graduated with honors and top in my class. However, over the years, I have animosity with this school for various reasons that have nothing to do with the actual school. So, when I find this thing, I can’t wait to sand off that logo. haha.

MAKOVER TIME

First, I’m not exactly sure what this original purpose is, but it has two large holes in the back and that routed edge on top. To start, I break out my sander and take off the paint enough to give it a smooth surface to work with.

Then, once I have the design sanded off, I attach the metal piece with a couple of wood screws.

For added fun, function, and texture, I dig into my stash and come up with these leftover pieces.

The skinny wood piece was found inside the recent buffet makeover HERE. Meanwhile, the knobs are off another upcycled piece that I can’t remember honestly. Well, I’ve been doing this for thirteen years so that happens. tsk.

Next, I take a flat black spray paint to coat it all and let cure. After that, I use a flat white for two coats on top of the black. You’ll see why in a minute.

Finally, here’s my DIY picture ledge made from my stash and thrifted finds. I love it!

Buh-bye bucks and hello style. Don’t you think it’s soooo much better? It still has function and oodles more character, me thinks.
