Do you know what time it is? It’s the second Tuesday of the month which means is Trash to Treasure Tuesday! {{excited applause}} My gal friends have created inspiration for you that you’ll see in a bit. For my #trashure fun today, I’ve got a repurposed antique sign…er…soon to be.
Take a look at this made in _____ gem. Kinda a hot mess with tousled raffia, falling off crow, and mossy mess.
My friend, Mandy, sent me a message asking if I wanted this. You bet! What a fun challenge this is, right?
DIY TIME
First order of business to tear this puppy apart. Talk about therapy! haha. It literally took two whacks of a hammer to get this to fall to pieces.
What you can obviously see is a moon, two rusty stars, a crow, and some really weird pumpkins. However, I can see wood, and wood means potential. It can be transformed into most anything.
Since I mentioned a repurposed antique sign, that’s where I’m headed. To keep it simple, I’m basically taking these bits and using them in a different form. In order to do that I bring a thrifted wood frame I scored a back a few months ago. It has a bit of damage, so I am updating it with a metallic English brown paint.
Also, notice I also refreshed the paint on the moon and crow too.
NEXT STEPS
Next, after my painting fun, I cut a piece of luan to mount my newly created decor. To install it, I use my point driver to tack the panel into the frame.
Last, but not least, I add my decorative elements to the front and have my finished product.
I’ve gotta say this was fun! I never turn down a hot mess challenge. They’re addictive to take on when they are as basic as this. Would you have guessed an antique sign? Of course, the old frame really helps pull it together.
I’m curious…what would you have done with that fall decor before? For me, I say those wonky pumpkins never looked better. Also, if you’d like to make this sign a part of your home, you can find it available in my online shop. (SOLD)
In addition, share and pin my repurposed antique sign to encourage others to rescue ugly decor. tee hee!
