Coffee Table Makeover with French Country Style

Do you ever feel like that no matter how hard you try, your good intentions never seem to work out? Here’s my story (and I’m sticking to it): my kids need clothes, right? So, I like to hit garage sales to save money, but it somehow never turns out that way. Why is it they have to stick other things in garage sales that would distract you from intended mission? tsk. Seriously. I was only going to look for clothes and then this coffee table just had to be there.

Grain Sack Table ~ Faux Look Tutorial

Do you love the look of grain sack like I do? Seriously, I could put it on anything and never tire of it. In a minute I am going to share how to make a grain sack table. But first, in times past, I’ve created my own faux grain sack fabric for this antique rocking chair see below.

…and my own pillows, decor…you get the idea. I love it!

For this post, I’m going to introduce you to my oldest son, Mr. I, so he can show you how easy this method is – that even a teenager can do it. He is one of my six budding apprentices, and has been working alongside me for quite some time. Mr. I enjoys creating his own masterpieces, and selling them in my shop and locally to create a nice savings for himself.

It’s fun to help him find pieces that are deemed worthy of a makeover, and assist here and there, but for the most part, he does all the work. Here’s his latest vintage garage sale find…a solid wood Queen Anne coffee table.

American made and quality cherry wood, but has some water damage and wear to the surface that makes it a good candidate for his project. I do believe this is his largest project so far. Read more

Creating Budget Style Beach Decor

Amazingly enough, we had a heat wave last week where the temps reached near 50 degrees.  Sigh.  This week is back to teens and twenties. So, how to deal with the winter blahs that are causing you to long for the beach?  Make some beach ambiance come to you by creating your own beach decor.

I found this oak coffee table / entertainment stand that was in need of some superficial love.

Looking better already and it’s only been sanded.

The sunbleached stain we used on our master bedroom floors (head to blog post here) got me hooked and I decided to give a beachy feel to this piece.
Here it is, all gussied up and ready for some waves.  It has sold from my shop, but there is always more goodness on the way.

This project didn’t quite quench the need for sand between my toes, so I took it up another level.

Remember my free vintage Morris rocker?  I know several of you told me to repair it and make it come back to life, but it was badly damaged and would have taken a lot of reconstruction to get it going.  So…it was time to make use of the parts.

During Christmas, I put the springs to use:

Question is what I’ll do with the rest of the rocker.  Become a follower to see!

What would you do with the back, spindles, rockers, and base?
