What always makes my work fun is the fact that I never work on the same piece twice. As soon as I complete my project, it heads to a new home. The blessing comes when I can see the derelict, the seemingly unloved, and the damaged come into my possession to receive a new lease on life. However, I don’t pretend to be a miracle worker, but only try to make things beautiful so they are loved again. Check out this wood console makeover about to happen.
Can you see I have Lily’s approval? She’s such a sass and shows her indignation at our new puppy, Loula. haha. Although they are still at odds (because of Lily’s choosing) they are warming up to each other slow and steady. With that in mind, let’s look at this newly adopted console cabinet. It is made of pine with knots and all. Not only is it sturdy, but it also has Mid-Century Modern vibe to it with the lines.
What to do with it? Well, my sander is itching to come out and play in the balmy 18-degree weather. ugh. At least the sun is shining this day!
DRESS IT UP
First, I use my wood filler to take care of all the dents and dings all over it. Additionally, someone also had the audacity to carve star shapes into the doors. Ah well…it’s nothing my sander can’t fix.
Then, after using a box of sanding discs to knock out all the damage, here is what I’m left with.
While I could just topcoat it and call it new, I want to adda a bit more spunk with color. Next, I use this same color I have from my pine bench makeover HERE. It’s the darkest of greens and so rich.
Meanwhile, I use a lighter shade of green to paint the interior so when those doors are open it’s all happy times on the inside. Oh, and as soon as the paint cures, between and after two coats, I apply two coats of a matte poly topcoat.
MODERN STYLING
Finally, here is my wood console makeover complete with a modern style. I’m so tickled with it!
The green really makes that raw wood pop, while the knobs I painted in gold add the modern vibe I am after.
Now for the inside…ta-da! So much better, right?
Above it is one of my favorite #trashure finds I picked in the rain. Who would throw a hand-embroidered Tin Lizzie away? In any event, my wood console cabinet makeover is complete with a new story to tell. I could see this at the end of a bed storing books and blanket, or in an entry keeping hidden outerwear necessities. Likewise, it’s useful as a television console, but who needs a TV? {{wink, wink}}

Yes!!!! This one is a stunner for sure. Living in the remote plains of NE Montana things like this are hard to find. The raw wood on the doors is so pretty, and I really like the shades of green as well. I’m glad you are enjoying your fur babies.
