Are you ready for some fun? A healthy debate is always good, especially in family. My oldest son, Mr. I and I both had vintage buffets to work on and I challenged him to a Battle of the Buffets. Loser makes all! That means the loser makes a dessert of choice for the winner. mwahahaha!! To get us started we’ll begin with this buffet makeover. Let’s get our DIY on!

Battle of the Buffets by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

Mr I. is no newbie to this game, so I have my work cut out for me. You can see his past work in his own makeovers HERE. It’s hard for me to believe that not only am I a mom to a teenager, but he’s already out-growing me. I’m not short at 5’10”!

Secretary Desk with English Cottage Style

Do you ever find you are drawn to an era, either because of family lines or maybe just the design style suits you? For me, it’s anything that has a story. Particularly for me that have a utilitarian function within a home. Take this vintage secretary desk radio, for instance. Yes, it was a radio and a desk at one point. It looks to have seen many faces in its time, and was even given a slightly dark face currently.

We have a few locally and I’m ever so thankful. However, what ends up jumping in my truck? Not a chair that I needed. Oh no. An adorable vintage tea cart. tsk. Does this ever happen to you? Farmhouse Style Decor ~ How to add it to your home

You know I love me some farmhouse style decor. Do I live on a farm? No. Do I want to live on a farm? YES. Funny thing is I was born on a farm (and act like it too – ha!) and lived in rural life until I left the nest. So many of us adore the simplicity of farmhouse decor, but don’t live on a farm. However, we don’t have to wait for that “farm in the sky” to have it.  Whether it’s good ol’ fashioned farmhouse or modern farmhouse, you can get the look for less. Let me show you what I mean. (I have a video for you!)

Want to add farmhouse style decor to your home, but lack a big budget? It's easier than you think. Come see at Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

First, let me say that country living is in my bones and one day I will get there whether here or in heaven. God hasn’t seen fit to bless me with that opportunity yet, so I am making the most of my blessings.

DIY Quilt Rack from Repurposed Parts

Do you ever get inspiration from junk? I mean, like it just kinda begs to be made into something and the vision is real the minute you see it. JC, my husband, does not. Bless his heart…hahaha… He tries, but is one that needs some direction to see things in a different light. That is what I’m here for, right?! Take this set of bed posts and misfit table legs. Do you see anything there? Let me show you how I turn it into a DIY quilt rack.

Faux Clock DIY ~ Repurposed Fun

I am a mama on a mission – a mission to declutter and make use of everything I can lay my DIY hands on. My home has been overrun by my business (kinda like living in a warehouse) and I need things to be normal, at least somewhat normal – as if living with 6 kids is ever normal. ha! My latest subject for renewal is this Art Deco mirror back that I think will make an awesome faux clock for my mantel. Do you see the potential?

Salvaged Art Deco Mirror Backing Before Repurposing | Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com

This mirror back was originally going to be used in our boys’ bedroom makeover that had an industrial feel. You can barely see it, but we had already drawn on the word “GULF” as we were going to turn this into a vintage appeal gas station sign. But, we didn’t end up using it, so faux clock it is.

My mantel has been…well…neglected. I haven’t done much to it since my fall design and Christmas, but now it needs a summery makeover, don’t you think?

If you are just joining in, we have been working in our back yard this summer giving it a much needed facelift. First, was our DIY compost bin, then our DIY fire pit. Today we are sharing the next stage of our renovations – our DIY garden arbor with play area. It began like this…

Back Yard Wood Pile Before Makeover | prodigalpieces.com

Yep, a hot mess. Each winter we run through a WHOLE LOTTA firewood. This is our wood pile that is normally full to the brim. However, I snapped this at the beginning of spring when we can break out of our cabin fever and get outside to clean up winter mess. Normally this is covered with a giant tarp, so my kids stick their bikes here to keep them out of the weather as our shed is full too. (next on my hit list)

Since 2003, I have had the pleasure of looking out our dining area and seeing this… Read more
