With the start of my new journey comes many new projects finally being taken care of in my life including, as always, my home. Since my oldest two kiddos are off on their own, that leaves my younger four taking advantage with the spoils of space. haha. I mean, who wouldn’t? Today, I’m sharing a bedroom makeover for my youngest son. You’ve known him as Mr. O with all of his past projects, but today, meet Oscar.
He’s a loving, happy-go-lucky guy that loves tennis and does very well at it. With his older brother moving out and leaving the room to him, it’s his turn.
You can see how I remodeled it for them with an industrial flair in this past post.
While this suited them perfectly when they were little, I’ve been gearing up to make the room for Oscar. First, if you remember, I found a desk that he needed and revived it HERE.
This little guy is nearing driving and I’m afraid to blink! Let’s get this bedroom makeover party started, shall we?
DEMO TIME
First, I have the story in written and video form because… well… sometimes two ways to tell a story give a better picture. With that, let’s start at the beginning. When the room got the industrial look, I was thankful to have this brick mural (giant sticker) offered to me to try out the product.
It was not only easy to install but also gives the impact I was after. This room is small, about 9′ x 12′, and adding a different wall adds depth visually.
So, both Oscar and I decided we want to modernize the space but still use this wall to create that depth. In order to start over, let me introduce you to a HOT MESS!!
Truly, the video shows how much time we spent on it, even with my other little helper. It took me days!! And my bilateral vertigo made this so very hard and tiring. I’m truly rockin’ it. (pun intended)
You may be wondering if I’d ever use repositionable wallpaper again? Yes. I have used it many times in the past in a different brand and would do so again. This particular product wasn’t up to par, but did the job, so no regrets.
Then, once I have the paper off, I have a whole lotta prep work to do filling holes, patching seams (see video for explanation on the seams), and sanding. Do you see how having all gray walls made it boxy?
GREEN
Next, you know what comes right? PAINT. {{happy dance}} All the prep work is the hard part of the job, then comes the fun. Since Oscar’s passion is tennis and we want a modern feel, we chose this dark, deep green for that wall.
Yes, it’s mighty bright in the can and when first going on, but it dries a lovely, deep color. I.love.it.
For the other walls, I mention in my video how the white I picked just didn’t match the tone, so I mixed up my own color.
After rolling all the walls and being able to see it taking shape, we can now add the furniture back in. Thankfully, a blessing is that I found a new bed that just was missing hardware. Easy-peasy fix by going to the hardware store with my guy and we assembled it quickly.
DECORATE
Last, but not least, it’s time to decorate. woot! I present my idea to Oscar to create some abstract art using thrifted stretched canvases. We head off the store and I show him this… hee hee.
It’s cute, but not his jam. In order for me to create the art, I’m looking for four or five canvases to do the job. Here’s my stash.
First, I paint them a basic white color of two coats letting cure in between coats.
Then, I use my transfer method to make a graphic to go on the canvases and paint the art in. Can you see how I layered the graphics over the sized canvas layout?
BEDROOM MAKEOVER COMPLETE
Finally, this bedroom makeover is complete and I daresay it’s perfect for him.
What you don’t see is how I repaired a vent pipe in the closet, cut out dozens of screws sticking out, and made a more functional space for him.
I’m so unbelievably proud of Oscar. He has not only, made the effort to understand himself better in the last couple of years, but also just is the sweetest soul. He’s giving, loving, smart, a talented artist, creative, and funny. What more could a mom ask for?
To give him this gift for his recent birthday as well as acknowledging him becoming a man, truly means the world to me. When I asked him if he wanted to hang his medals and trophies, he said, “nah”. We have a few out just for fun.
Oh, and he does play with that vintage racquet. Every time we find one, he wants to adopt it. haha. However, having this one will do.
And how about that wall art? I did it in the likeness of his current favorite racquet (that I also must mention he earned the funds to buy two so he can have a backup). Do you know tennis gear is expensive?!? While all my kids play the sport and play it well, I’m just happy to have my guys enjoying something that will stay with them their entire lives.
Oscar and I hope you are enjoying this bedroom makeover and are feeling inspired. My goal was to create a space easy for him to care for and give him a sanctuary surrounded by the things he loves.

Wow, i saw the brick and loved it. Then I saw the green, double wow! The whole room opened up and looks bigger! Nice art work too!
Yay!! Yes, we loved the brick too, but it was time for new. It feels good to walk in and not feel chaos (those guys are messy). Hopefully he can enjoy it as his own space now.
A very nice and tranquil room for Oscar! Isn’t it fun making over rooms for our growing kids.
Thank you. He loves it, my efforts took care of needed repairs and updates – win-win.
Very nice now ! So fun to see our kidos growing up. 🙂
The wall art is so fitting. Great job !
It goes so very fast, doesn’t it? He is happy, my job is done, now for a breath before the next room. 😀 Thanks so much.
What a great transition makeover!!! I love the tennis art. It also makes his equipment part of the design. What a lucky young man to have a Mom like you and congratulations on raising such a fine young man! 🥰
aww… Thank you, Rebecca. This was a sweet treat for me to gift him for his birthday as well as spend time together. A blessing!
Another wonderful makeover Larissa! A perfect room for a growing-up young man..
I know you are so proud of Oscar!
Yes, I am wholeheartedly proud. We’ve had a bumpy few years and he stepped up for his own sake and making good on my efforts to help all learn.
Great job, great son, loving Mom!
You’re so sweet, Joanne. I’m just happy to have my kiddos in my life.
You are a gr8 Mama! It turned out So good and I bet he loves it!
He does! We got rid of so much “stuff” and that means less to care for. Plus, he’s no longer on the top bunk and he’s getting BIG, so that makes it sweet for him too. Thanks for the love, Susan!
LOVE THE REFRESH!! YOUR CANVAS ART OF THE RACQUET IS AMAZING. YOU HAVE SUCH VISION. YOUR AMAZING!
You’re so fun, Robin! Thank you for the ear-to-ear smile. 😀
Great makeover! Love the new art and the green wall!
happy dance!! Thank you, Tricia. It feels good to see it done and see him happy.
Well done you two. Love the deep green accent wall. You make great use of the space. I also like the desk and chair. Isn’t it fun to see a plan come together. Sounds like you have a son to be proud of. I guess I should say, your son should feel proud of his accomplishments and the young man he is.
That’s so very sweet of you to say, Joanne. I’m delighted to be able to give him a space all his own and see him embrace the changes in his life. Thank you for your kind words. He is such a blessing to me.
