DIY Bee Skep from Upcycled Materials

If you’ve been with me for long, you know my dad (and my mom) brings me quite the fun…umm…project pieces. I love it! Grass Hanging Planters Before Upcycling by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

You may be like my dad, my bestie, my husband, and most who have no idea what a bee skep actually is. First, let me say that I was elated thinking I could incorporate these into my garden. I’ve always wanted to keep bees because they’re endangered and we need them to survive. However, since bee-keeping is a science and such a fragile art, I Read more

Farmhouse Kitchen Storage Cubby

Gotta love it when friends and family enjoy what you do and even encourage you in your love of #trashure. haha. I mean that. Who else do I know that receives someone else’s junk and gets to play with it? It’s a challenge I welcome, even though at times I want to turn it down because of stash overload. In the case of this shelf below, I felt sorry for it. My dad brought it to me and I just had to give it a shot. Let me show you how I rebuilt it into farmhouse kitchen storage.

Story goes like this, my dad has rentals and when someone leaves he has to clean out, refresh the home, and get it ready for the next person, right? Well, he gets left with all sorts of messes and one of them was an old couch that had cat yuck all over it. However, he thought that these Read more

Curbside Piano Bench before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

So, here’s how the story goes. My oldest, Mr. I, does daily exercise that takes him up and down the street many times. On one of his adventures he came home to tell me there was a piano a few houses down sitting curbside. Me, who has absolutely no room forΒ anotherΒ piano felt bad, but left it there.

Next day, neighbor comes over to tell me the same thing. I told him the same response that I had no interest in another large piece joining my “collection”, so there it sat. Then the next day my dad came bringing the items I showed in my last post and mentioned the piano. hahaha…see a trend? Well, I didn’t know all this time that there was a bench too, so I had him snag that for me since pickup of trash was that day.

I really hated to see a beautiful instrument go to the trash as I love to play piano and teach my children to do the same. However, I can’t save everything. sigh… The poor set had been left out in the rain Read more
