Upcycled Bar Stool into Home Decor

There is no doubt over the years that I’ve made purchases that cause regret. From busted furniture I was told wasn’t (evidence HERE) to those I did know was damaged, but felt compelled to rescue (more evidence HERE). Today, take a peek at what I paid for, but did not realize the issues it had. Coincidentally, I feel an upcycled bar stool project coming on. ahem.

To begin with, I see the stool in a store and leave it to go pick up my kids. However, it dawns on me that it would be close match to a damaged one I have at home from my set of 3. (see their makeover in this past post). It isn’t until I get it home after asking my daughter to get it for me that I see the disappointment. TWO…yes two missing rungs AND the repair to the top.

The top isn’t so bad, but I’m boogered by the missing spindles. So, now I need to figure out the next steps.

DIY TIME

First, I figure that I can at least salvage a spindle from this broken bar stool to fit into mine. Here’s my beauty by my kids using it like a ladder. tsk.

And, here is after I cut up and take apart the upcycled bar stool. Win-win! Now it just needs paint to match.

NEXT STEPS

Next, now that I have the spindle issue figured out, I scheme what to do with the rest of the upcycled bar stool. Nothing goes to waste around here, that’s for sure! I pull out my jigsaw and cut off the base of the stool.

Then, I paint it and it’s good to go. Hang on and I’ll show you it in a minute.

However, before I call it quits, I want to make use of the leftover base as well. I pull out my Shaker pegs and have some fun with it.

Hi Larissa, I love little stools as well, and this one is a cutie! Clever use of the spindles: but i have a question: how do you attach them to the wall?

    • Larissa says

Thanks so much, Joan. My favorite go-to is keyhole hardware. Safe and works with heavy items.

Love that this remorse bar stool purchase was the stool that kept on giving. Love that it was just what you needed to repair your kitchen bar stool. But then make not one but two sweet farmhouse towel racks and adorable little stool. So handy as a decor riser, plant stand, step stool, and the list goes on. Great save my friend!

You should have seen my face when I got it home…meh. Ah well! Thanks so much, Marie!
