Ever drive by a bed frame or headboard sitting on the side of the road? Or {{gasp}} maybe you’re even one of those who donate them (hopefully not trashed them 😅). Honestly, I’ve given many away because I’ve worked on so many! As a fun collective today, I’m featuring over 20 upcycled bed projects to inspire you.
Are you ready?
Muster up your DIY spirit and let’s have a look.
Oh, and I’ll be asking your favorite if you can pick just one!
PROJECT 1
First of all, I don’t exactly have a favorite, so don’t ask. ahem.
So, I’ll just start with one of my most challenging yet inspiring upcycled bed projects using a French Provincial headboard from a king bed I paid $20 for {{fist pump!!}} This was my first-ever attempt at sewing a French mattress and even got to use three random table legs to boot. See the full project HERE – French Headboard Bench
PROJECTS 2 & 3
Then, one of my very first viral projects over thirteen years ago (crazy!!) is my repurposed baby crib easels. Man, I shipped those all over and had a blast salvaging and building. See original DIY HERE – Baby Crib Easels
Or how about this antique crib I pull from my neighbor’s trash? See the full repurposed tutorial HERE – Vintage Baby Crib Upcycled
PROJECTS 3 & 4
Next, how about bunk bed ladders? If you find that you have no use for them as-is, consider these projects for an easy upcycle.
What’s better than having a place for all your garden goodies? See full upcycle HERE – Upcycled Bunk Bed Ladder
Maybe someone gives you misfit bed rails like these? Make art and storage – woot! See the full tutorial HERE – Upcycled Bed Rails
PROJECT 5
Okay… maybe I can pick a favorite.
Don’t shoot me.
By far, this was a challenge but oh so fun!! I instantly knew what I wanted to do with this set of underbed drawers I found at Curb le Chic (aka. #trashure) See the full build HERE – Reclaimed Workbench
Do you blame me for lovin’ on it as a fave? nah.
PROJECTS 6 – 12
Heads up!
Let’s look at more funky fun headboard projects including this entry rack and cat cot for Lily. See full tutorial HERE – Upcycled Headboard Entry Rack.
While we can focus on those boring headboards, what about bookcase headboards? They are full of potential. I made three projects out of this one including a bench with storage – see full DIY HERE – Repurposed Bookcase Headboard
Also, another bookcase headboard I found for upcycled bed fun, was this one I reworked into a hutch. See the full upcycle HERE – Upcycled Bookcase Headboard
Meanwhile, here’s a larger headboard from a waterbed. I made the majority of it into a console for my daughter’s new home. See the full upcycle HERE – Repurposed Headboard
PROJECTS 13-18
At the end of it all, don’t we need to include footboards too? hee hee. This random, misfit footboard led me to create several projects that you can see in full HERE – Upcycle Footboard.
Another fun set is this headboard and footboard pairing I pulled from city cleanup. Not only did I create one coffee table, but two that also includes upright grand piano parts!
See the first one HERE – Reclaimed Coffee Table.
Likewise, you can view the second table HERE – Upcycled Coffee Table.
PROJECT 19-20+
Last, here are a few fun upcycled bed projects that I just can’t leave out (though there are more… yep). This bed was a sweet find set out for trash, and I couldn’t drive by and leave it. See it in the flesh in my family room remodel HERE – Family Room Remodel Reveal.
Additionally, I can’t burn scraps like this when I can make ’em into fun like this pairing with dresser handles and a few other bits. See the full DIY upcycle HERE – Reclaimed Hymn Board.
What is more… this bed frame was one I also couldn’t leave behind. Do you see why? See the build HERE – Upcycled Bed Frame.
One more… bed rails I plucked from the curb that suited my need in my health journey. See my Life Updates HERE.
BONUS
Finally, just for fun, here are a few other related upcycled bed projects… using bedding. {{wink, wink}} See all my #ReduceReuseREFASHION projects HERE.
First, I turned a super soft sheet into a super cozy jumper…for ME. Yasss…. See the refashion fun HERE – Refashioned Jumper.
Second, damaged bed sheets are wonderful for making crochet creations. Because I’m a hooker, ya know. See the full tutorial HERE – Crochet Basket.
Last, but not least, my little biddies made from a vintage chenille bedspread. See their birth HERE – Upcycled Chenille Bedspread Chicken.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, I remember almost every one of these. I can’t pick a favorite because each one is a brilliant up cycle in its own right. I appreciate that thanks to your creative talents, these trashures did not end up in landfills.
We’ve been together so long, Marie! Time flies when… when you’re not having fun, eh? 😉 Thank you for the smile. 😀
Cool reminders Larissa. I like the bench/daybed from the spindle frame the best I think. My days as of late are like a train wreck, but I have projects I want to get to. Thanks for sharing all your bed frame /linen projects to renew some inspiration! Have a blessed weekend!
Thanks so much, Niki. Yes, so many beds, so little time! I haven’t been working on projects like this for a long time for many reasons, so I understand. Hugs to you.
So many favourites! The French provincial bench, the bunk bed ladder shelves, the drawer workbench is so impressive and the biddies!
Keep looking forward, it takes time to heal. Know that people appreciate you and wish you well.
Beds just have so many uses, and I still have fun with them. I’m glad you found these inspiring, Jo-Ann.
