Loads going on behind the scenes for me as I continue to heal, move forward, and keep up with my home. Maybe you’ve been around here long enough to remember that 13 YEARS AGO I did a metal awning makeover?
🎵 “Back in the saddle again”🎵
Well… 13 years means 13 years of rain, snow, sun, and branches falling for my DIY copper patina awning (tutorial HERE). Not only is it looking sad, but my whole dining area exterior needs some love.
For a fun take and insight, watch the DIY in action below.
MY TO-DO LIST
As I mention earlier, I’ve had many projects to tackle this summer before winter hits to get my place up to par.
Recently, I’ve:
- Replaced basement windows
- Son’s bedroom makeover
- Replaced kitchen sink faucet and disposal
- Replaced family room roof
- Attic prep and master bedroom prep
- Garden bed repair
- Garden replenish
- Master bedroom makeover
- Family room makeover
- Painted my garage door
- plus doing much of it with fractured thumb (see all Life Updates HERE)
And I’m not even close to being done.
Deborah (my chainsaw, previously named George) and I have been making good on firewood for winter week before last.
Last week, I replaced my relief valve on my hot water heater and flushed it as well while having the best onlooker waiting for the hose of water to play. (BTW – this flushing should be done yearly to remove sediment)
Not funny, however, was the next morning, I went to take a shower and the adapter to the shower head was spraying EVERYWHERE. After that, I go to the store to get a new one. As soon as I replace it, I notice the tile shelf holding hair products was sagging and about to fall out of the wall.
ugh.
Can I get A BREAK? Off to the store again for adhesive and grout.
In addition, I cleaned my gutters with the help of my son, Oscar, because my vertigo paired with hose blasting is a bad idea. haha.
However, while up there, I noticed some of my gutter nails were weak or sagging. So, I switch them out for screws instead.
METAL AWNING
Up next, I am ready to tackle this awning. Thanks to Elena, my daughter, to helping me get this thing down.
I’d say it’s about time, wouldn’t you?
Then, after a good cleaning and sanding, I’m ready to paint with this hammered copper.
UP AND BRIGHT
Finally, my metal awning makeover is complete – woot!
It’s bright, shiny, and looks good from my seat at the dining table.
What is more, I mention in my video that I plan to repair the dining room exterior as soon as I get a few days of clear weather.
SHARE
Likewise, I’m happy with the outcome and glad to have another project checked off the list. Have you had many projects this summer too? In addition to leaving some comment love below, do pin and share to inspire others to get crackin’.

I’m sure you’ve addressed THIS issue, but I noticed your door opens right on a window. What keeps it from having it slam open and crack the window? Makes me nervous LOL
What issue? 😉 It’s not an issue at all and it’s been like this since 1952, and I’ve lived here for 22 years.
😂😂 so I had my email hacked last week while my provider is switching over to a new system. I thought the water heater post was today’s.
I so enjoy anything copper on the exterior of a home and I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the siding of your dining area. It’ll sure be nice for you to have those projects done. For now the awning looks great!
Boy do I understand the one thing after another. The email thing happened and then my husband’s pick up that our youngest drives stopped running and then yesterday the sewer backed up.
Just one more thing……
ugh!!! I hate that.
Thank you for the kind words. I’m not really wanting to do the shakes and may just repair the rot and go from there with the same color paint as I really like that color and it matches my shutters. We’ll see once I get into tearing it out.
I sure hope your situations get resolved as well. I feel we both need a vacation. Maybe after I replace my broken washer, dryer, and refrigerator.
