Paint Layering Technique ~ French Relief Wall Art

While I’m always raving about the wood section of the thrift store, there certainly are other haunts that are a must-see too. For instance, these two plaques were in the home decor section and jumped right in my cart…really. tsk. How about I show you my vision for them by demonstrating my paint layering technique? Game on.

So…would you grabbed them? To be honest, the color reminded me of a moss covered garden art, which isn’t all that bad…for a garden. However, I had a better idea. I felt they Read more

Farmhouse Chic Dresser & Best Paint Brushes Ever

Do you know that old country tune by Gene Autry, “Back in the Saddle Again”? I told you when I work that music comes to mind. This ditty became my theme song as this is the first big project I’ve done since my shoulder injury. The challenge ahead of me was to take this damaged dresser and give it a new look to bring it back to life. This time I’m going with a farmhouse chic finish. Check it out…

This was another one of those cases where I purchased something sight unseen. ahem. I had the guy deliver this and another gem I have yet to show you, and I was a bit miffed when I looked close. I was told it was in “great shape and only had minor wear”.

Metallic Paint Makeover ~ A Table Tale

It’s been a while since I’ve done a furniture makeover and with fall on the way I wanted to add some autumn colors to the mix. One of my favorite things to do in the evening is enjoy those gorgeous sunsets that light up the sky. It looks as if the whole event was painted in glory, and boy, does it sparkle like gold. I decided to capture a bit of that color in this vintage Mersman table makeover using metallic paint.

Vintage Sideboard Refreshed

Our kitchen remodel is going strong and it’s time to make some changes. One of the pieces in our kitchen is my vintage sideboard. I have had this handsome server for several years and hadn’t had the time to give it a makeover. My personal things always come last. tsk. So, for today’s Themed Furniture Makeover, which the topic is CHOCOLATE, I decided it was high time to get ‘er done.

Since we have 6 kids (and homeschool), our table space is somewhat limited. We have our custom farmhouse table that I recently refinished (you can see it HERE), but at one point I bought a Duncan Phyfe extension table hoping to enlarge our seating capacity. The table was a no-go due to our dining area dimensions, so I sold it. But… I kept the matching sideboard.

Over the years, it has held our homeschool materials and served us well. I would sit and daydream…”One day I will finally give you the makeover you deserve”. Read more

Outdated Dresser to Classic Vintage

It’s always fun to take a vintage piece of furniture that has seen better days and tweak it a bit by staying true to its era. That’s where this outdated dresser comes into play.

My oldest daughter was looking for a piece of furniture to work on and we found this sweet piece on Craigslist, and thankfully it wasn’t too far away from us. It has great bones with only wear to the face and top.

I have taught my daughter how to prep a piece by making any repairs and sanding, as she did in her makeover I mentioned in this older post. I can’t tell you enough how rewarding to see my efforts pay off to her benefit.

Vintage Typography Acme Cedar Chest

I have a fascination for vintage typography and have a blast adding it to the pieces I work on. It was a goal of mine to do something fun on a chest of drawers, but when I found this cedar chest in a thrift store, I knew just what to do with it.

These two pieces below may not look like a match made in heaven, but they will become upcycled farmhouse decor. Stay with me now. tee hee.

Antique Library Table with Fresh New Look

There is little in this life that is more rewarding that sharing things that you love to do with like-minded people. When Trash to Treasure Tuesday rolls around I can’t wait to see what my gal friends have to share with us. Bonus is I get to share too. My subject for this month’s makeover is this antique library table. Aren’t the lines fabulous?

I know I say it all the time, but I had no intention of coming home with this size of a table. My workshop was empty and I was loving it. So, how did it end up with me? Well, I took my kids for a thrift store scavenger hunt – where I give them a list of things to find and they team up to see who can find them first. We needed a break from our schedule and that was a last-minute option.

While they were racing to find their items, I found Read more
