That phrase “time flies” is so apropos when it comes to being a parent. Ya blink and your kids are grown and moving out. With that comes change, as does major life changes like I’ve had in my recent days. You can read my Life Updates HERE as I navigate divorce and a slew of other issues.
When I first moved into my home over 21 years ago, I had a large space to fill and no budget. That meant I shop second-hand and also means finding this piece for a few bucks. It is missing a top door, had a broken frame, damaged top, and more.
However, I bought some trim and in my basic skills and rustic tools at the time and covered the damage. Then, I also add a rough piece of scrap plywood as a shelf. It’s stood in my living room just like this all that time. I enjoy when a piece can tell a story and just be. While I’ve had many compliments on it, it’s also a reminder of some things I’d like to forget.
FIXIN’ UP
First order of business, I use wood filler to patch all the places that have dents, cuts, cracks, and seams. Then, once cured, I sand the top and all the patch places.
After I have it ready, I apply two coats of paint in this same color I used in my bedroom.
Likewise, Loula loves it so much she stuck her face in it just like she did when I was painting this tilt-top table she made fall on me.
While the paint cures, I need to cut a new piece for a shelf. This is the old one I grabbed from junk and stained dark to serve as a shelf for twenty years. It’s crazy the skills and knowledge I have acquired in that time.
Next, I just need to paint and finish up and this antique table makeover is complete.
NEW LOOK
Finally, after twenty-one years, this antique table has a new look that restores the functionality and style. Yay!
In addition, I’ll say it again, the color is perfect, and those legs… swoon.
And, of course, I added a bit of party on the inside.

This looks so good now, Larissa! Such a metaphor for life, right? Broken but fixed good enough to do the job, then given a new chance to shine, and it is so much more beautiful than it knew it could be! XOXO
It sure is. I loved it the way it was, but now it needs a new home.
Hi Larissa,
I loved the old with a story, and now the new, giving it a fresh start! You did an amazing job with it, just like you are doing with your own fresh start! Prayers for you as you figure out your new life with so many possibilities ahead!
Wendy
Hi Wendy! 🙂
I did too and want it to have a new home with a new story. Yes, totally needing to make new memories. Thanks so much for the prayers.
I love it. You do beautiful makeovers. I don’t write much because of severe artery. But, every time I see your posts I pray you are doing well. You’re talented, a wonderful mother, and I hope you always have God’s blessings 🙏❤️
Lori, you are so sweet to take the time and make the effort to show love. I can’t tell you enough how much it means to me. Sending a HUGE hug!
This makeover is beautiful Larissa, I LOVE the color and the party on the inside. 😉 It looks super cute on Loula too – friggn adorable! Pinnned XOXO
hee hee. She couldn’t resist sticking her nose in. ; Thanks so much, Denise.
I’m always amazed how some TLC and a fresh coat of paint can bring so much life back to a piece! Looks stunning!!
And Loula is quite the assistant, lol!!
I know what you mean. Aside from my rough fixes years ago, it still is a sturdy little thing. She is da boss! 😀
Love the table re-do but You need to write a story about Loula. She steals the show every time!
hee hee! I try to share her antics but it’s so MANY! What a dear one she is while being my sidekick.
Little side table/cabinets like this yes, yes I will buy them…..probably too many of them. It’s hard to want to keep everything natural and then need to paint it because of imperfections or to be honest because it actually looks better painted. She’s a pretty girl now!!
They are a treasure for sure. This one has a new story for a new home. Thank you, Niki.
That turned out just beautiful, Larissa! Love, love the color you chose! xo
Thank you for the kind words, Nancy. Moving on…
