Footstool Upholstery ~ It really is that easy

One of the questions I often get asked is, “Is upholstery really that hard?” Truth is that no, it isn’t when you have the right tools, lots of practice, and plenty of patience. It’s the kinda thing you can figure out the basic jist of it by diving in. To give you a glimpse of how easy it really can be, I’m taking a pair of thrifted footstools and showing you how to dive into footstool upholstery.

Do you see why they need a little…ahem…help? The footstool on the right is a handmade cover that isn’t bad, but just needed some oomph. The footstool on the left was kinda dingy and also could use a lift. That one on the left is the one Read more

Thrifty Farmhouse Decor ~ Budget Style Decorating

Who doesn’t like to have a good score at the thrift store? If you’re not raising your hand…ummm…I can honestly say that we are not kin. hee hee hee. Seriously though, take a look at what I got in this stash in one trip. A clock, a caddy, a wood thingy (I actually know what it is, do you?), and a large empty framed wall decor. I want to show you how I turned them into some thrifty farmhouse decor. Let’s get our DIY on, plus I have a WINNER to announce!

Assortments of Thrift Store Finds | Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

When I go thrifting, I’m always on the lookout for these outdated wooden pieces because they offer much potential. Since I am not a box store junkie for my home decor, I like to make it my own by personal touches and updates, or even finding a new purpose for it which, I believe, causes intrigue in my decor.

First, let’s start with that little wood napkin caddy. Isn’t it cute? It is Read more

Woolly Sheep ~ Repurposed Farmhouse Decor

Music is in the air, the birds are singing, and there’s not a cloud in the sky. Why? Because it’s Trash to Treasure Tuesday! Do you ever feel that way when you know you get to have fun? Decoupage Furniture to Add Flair

Do you ever have a piece of furniture that is lacking some pep? Sometimes it can just need a little updating and although painting will suffice, you can also decoupage furniture. What’s that you say? Let me show you what I’m talking about using this Art Deco waterfall chest as an example. AND… I have an awesome surprise for you at the end of this post!

Waterfall Chest of Drawers Before Decoupage Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com

*sidenote: While I understand some people are wood purists and chastise me for painting, I too love wood. I only paint things that won’t lose value when painted. This chest is not a high-end Art Deco piece and I know that by experience. This is a copy and thus I can change it as it suits me. PLUS, it’s mine! (end of rant – thank you.Β  πŸ˜€ )

I found this chest on Craigslist (gotta love CL!) and in the past I have done several different things to these waterfall chests. My most popular is my BEEP. This dude was a freebie for good reason – he was a hot mess!

Entertainment Console from Curbside Dresser

Trashure is my word for treasure found in the trash (aka. one man’s trash is another woman’s treasure). Today is Trash to Treasure Tuesday!Β AsΒ I showed you last week, this Mid Century Modern credenza is going to get a new life as an entertainment console. Woot! Just wait until you see what my blogger friends have for you too.

Here’s the story behind my find. I was being a good girl and not even going out junkin’ during our city clean-up. Why, you ask? Because my garage shop is a wreck from our remodel and I have NO ROOM! Plus, I only like to keep on hand what I can work on in the next few weeks.

Anyhoo, it was our quadrant’s time to set out trash and I promised myself that if I saw something en route from my house to errandsΒ that I was allowed to pick it up. Only catch was it had to be AFTER all the pickers had already gone through. Otherwise, all was off-limits. So here’s a sampling of some of what I found in one day…eep! Read more
