Heat Gun Wood Burning ~ Nordic Wooden Trees DIY

Though many think Christmas is the time to go all out, I say, why wait?  I mean, if you love to decorate, do it all the time. However, I don’t mean having a Christmas tree up all year (unless that floats your boat). What I do mean is decor can look awesome any time. I prefer to use elements that can be tweaked for any season or for any event. Today I’m sharing a new technique with heat gun wood burning. To give you an example, I’ve created this super easy craft for you to make. These Nordic wooden trees that are perfect for Christmas and all year long. All you need is one pine board. Woot!

We have a few locally and I’m ever so thankful. However, what ends up jumping in my truck? Not a chair that I needed. Oh no. An adorable vintage tea cart. tsk. Does this ever happen to you? Farmhouse Style Decor ~ How to add it to your home

You know I love me some farmhouse style decor. Do I live on a farm? No. Do I want to live on a farm? YES. Funny thing is I was born on a farm (and act like it too – ha!) and lived in rural life until I left the nest. So many of us adore the simplicity of farmhouse decor, but don’t live on a farm. However, we don’t have to wait for that “farm in the sky” to have it.  Whether it’s good ol’ fashioned farmhouse or modern farmhouse, you can get the look for less. Let me show you what I mean. (I have a video for you!)

Want to add farmhouse style decor to your home, but lack a big budget? It's easier than you think. Come see at Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

First, let me say that country living is in my bones and one day I will get there whether here or in heaven. God hasn’t seen fit to bless me with that opportunity yet, so I am making the most of my blessings.

Repurposed Cabinet Door Crate

Do you do a spring cleaning each year? For me, it seems like each month is spring with my family of 8 because I’m forever purging and cleaning. ha! Not complaining, just the truth. If I’m cleaning I know I have loved ones around me. Take for instance my workshop, full of goodies ready to become something new. These doors came off of a buffet that my son completed HERE (you seriously have to see it!). We promised to show you this repurposed cabinet door project. Oh, and we have a WINNER for the Zibra prize package!

Apothecary Cabinet Makeover ~ A Trashure Story

I love my husband, JC, with all my heart and then some. He is my best friend and confidant, but he is also my polar opposite in many ways. Like they say, opposites attract, right? He is the reason that this forlorn piece of furniture is my subject for today’s Furniture Fixer Upper fun. Thankfully, I can laugh and have a go at making this into an apothecary cabinet. Stay with me, I’ll explain below. Oh, and be sure to read through to see the furniture makeover goodness from my friends too.

Filing Cabinet Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

JC had one job to do. Mind you he works full-time, is the one who ships everything for me from my shop, furniture and all, and is our main dude in our remodeling adventures. So, I guess he deserves a little slack, but…this happens A LOT.  I asked him to stop by and pick up this “filing cabinet” (as the lady described), but only bring it home if it was solid wood and would hold my files. ahem…does it look like solid wood to you? Grain Scoop Sconce DIY – Upcycled Ladder Projects

About a year ago I created a few things from some flea market finds that were quite a hit. (read more HERE) Out of that set I decided to keep a grain scoop I turned into a candle sconce. Many asked me to create them one if I ever got around to it, so today I’m showing you how to do it DIY style. Follow along as I create a grain scoop sconce from this old broken ladder and a few simple supplies.

Vintage Buffet from Trash to Trashure

Do you ever feel like quitting? I know I’m not alone when I say there are times I just want to grab a ticket and hop on a plane with my family and go hide out for a few months. Can I get an amen? I have reached that point a few times over the last few months, understandably so with all that we have going on. When a friend pointed out a vintage buffet to me for FREE, I hesitated. Can you see why?

Update Old Wood with Stain ~ Easy DIY

I don’t know about you, but I run across unfinished primitive pieces of furniture all the time and as much as I like the rustic look, sometimes it needs revitalized because of damage or wear. Today, I want to show you how easy it is to update old wood with a simple treatment using stain.

My candidate for this makeover is a primitive chicken wire cupboard I got off of Craigslist.

A lady was moving and unloading all sort of furniture that was not her style anymore and she was done with Americana decor. This cupboard is in great shape structurally, but had been drawn on in marker, and had plenty of water ring damage to the top.

One of my subjects for this project is a Craiglist cast-off. I found this oak coffee table / entertainment stand that was in need of some superficial love.
